Obituary
It is with much love & great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Jean Maurer (nee Davidson, Young). Mom passed away on December 22, 2022, surrounded by love (both near & far) in Prince George, BC at the age of 85 by natural causes.
Jean was predeceased by her husband Hermann Maurer, son Darryl Davidson, sister Joyce Stec, brother Duane Young, parents Malvina & James Young.
Mom will be greatly missed by:
her children; Ray (Melanie) Davidson, Jeanne/Renee (Ray) Gaudet, Duane Davidson, Marlyss Davidson, Michelle (Terry) Marrelli-Trip, Rolf (Beate) Maurer, Gabriele (Andreas) Maurer
her grandchildren; Tara (Dudley), Robert (Kayla), Brenn (Frelyn), Jennifer (Matthew), Scott (Krystal), Eric (Georgina), Katrina (Wade), Brandon (Shania), Shaquel (Aaron), Selena, Brett, Angela (Kyle), Tysen (Chelsea), Joey (Courtney), Anthony (Madison), Ashton (Madhavi), Chelsea (James), Courtney (Brennan), Madison (Ty), Max, Charlie, Ole, Anke, Hendrik, Hanna, Paula & Maria,
her 46 great grandchildren & soon to be 9 great-great grandchildren.
her siblings Florence Draper, Anne (Terry) Hughes & Jim Young
her numerous nieces and nephews
Mom was involved in many communities she was fortunate to call home, from all over the USA, Fort Mc Murray, Hinton (Mayor from 1984-1989), to traveling with her husband to numerous countries for work. Lac La Biche is where she retired, built her house, and then finally moved to Prince George where she lived with her youngest daughter. She has many friends who became like family to her, located all over the world who she loved to keep up with. Mom was an incredible example of strength and able to achieve everything she set out to do well into her 80’s.
Mom was the matriarch of our family, always cooking and gathering family, neighbors & friends to her table & home. She was welcoming, strong, independent, the hardest working person we know and every day she had plans she wanted completed. She was quick to laugh and had an amazing way of getting things done & finding all kinds of activities for us kids/grandkids to do when we visited (or she came to visit). Whether we wanted to or not, we were making perogies, cabbage rolls or pickling carrots, cucumbers, making jams, painting decks, gardening or weeding when mom had a plan – we all were doing it! She somehow made it fun. Mom was epic with her energy level & never sat still until work was done.
She always made sure our favorite dishes were cooked and fresh bread, cinnamon buns & doughgods were made for us. She also arranged great times spent at Young’s Beach either in the lake, sitting on her deck with a drink or around a campfire laughing and talking. Mom was also an avid sports fan, her Blue Jays and Oilers at the top of her list and she was so much fun to watch a game with as she would be right involved given them hell or cheering them on making a fan out of everyone.
Oma loved her grandkids and made sure they all had time alone with her, either camping or staying with her during their school holidays. Mom loved her children, knew & adopted all our friends, no matter which towns, provinces, or countries we lived in. She lived an amazing life and her children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren have precious & hilarious memories to carry in our hearts. Mom, we miss you greatly & love you always. Rest now sweet mama until we all meet again, you are loved as we carry you always in our hearts.
Special thank you to our sister Michelle & her family (Terry, Angela/Kyle, Tysen/Chelsea) for taking such loving care of our mom in her last 2.5 years of life.
As per family request a Celebration of Life will be held April 29th, 2023 1-4pm, (Moyer Recreation Center, 54569 Range Road 215, Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta).
Final resting place: Willow Park Cemetery, Lac La Biche, Alberta.
Respectfully submitted by the Maurer family.
