Janine FONTAINE Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother Janine Fontaine on April 17, 2024 at the age of ninety. Janine was born in Girardville, Quebec on January 27, 1934.
Janine married her childhood sweetheart Jacques in 1961 and they moved their family to the West Kootenays in 1969 before settling in Sparwood in 1971. Her greatest pleasure in life was her family, she loved nothing more than to spend time with her children and her grandchildren whom she adored. Janine and Jacques loved to travel throughout Canada in their motorhome. They spent many years camping at Koocanusa, a place they referred to as Heaven on Earth. They would be the first to arrive in the Spring and the last to leave in the Fall. They loved to spend time outdoors, hunting and fishing whenever they could. Janine enjoyed cooking and canning, sewing, painting, knitting and crocheting; there wasn’t a craft she didn’t excel at. She also loved to play all kinds of games and always looked forward to Poker night with friends. Janine was an active member of her community and spent countless hours volunteering for different organizations. She will be remembered for her kindness, her love of animals, her great sense of fashion, and most of all her sense of humour and beautiful smile.
Left to cherish her memory are her 3 children; Sylvie (Dean), Andre (Sandra) and Martin (Julie), her grandchildren Zachary (Ashley), Joshua (Alysha) and Jacqueline (Juan) and two great-grandchildren Alicja and Aurelia. She will also be dearly missed by her sisters Jacqueline, Carmen, Lison, Ghyslaine and her brother Yvon, nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends.
She was predeceased by her parents Henri and Jeanne Simard, her brother Marcel and her beloved husband Jacques.
Janine’s family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the amazing nurses and care aids who took wonderful care of her at the Fernie Hospital and Rocky Mountain Village.
We take great comfort knowing that she has reunited with our dad, the love of her life, and they are camping and fishing which they both loved so very much. We will always love you mom, we miss you, and you will be in our thoughts and hearts forever.
