Janet Louise (Wilson) Smith
1941-2024
Janet Louise (Wilson) Smith, 83, of Hillsborough passed away
peacefully on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at
the Moncton Hospital with her loving family by her
side.
Janet was born in Moncton on February 22nd, 1941 the daughter
of the late Harry and Ethel (Williams) Osborne. She was a member of
the Hillsborough Baptist Church.
Janet enjoyed working as a self-employed
hairdresser/caregiver until her retirement. She was
a great cook and loved making birthday cakes for many customers, as
well as friends, remembering their birthdays each year. She eagerly
awaited August apples being in season each year to make her favorite
delicious apple pies! She also looked forward to maple sugar season
every year, getting the earliest possible pound of fresh maple
cream!
Janet was very thoughtful and made sure friends visiting the
hospital got a ‘get well’ card from her and often
made a point to visit them. Janet took pleasure in gardening, and took
great pride in seeing her plants bloom, especially the coral and
orange ones!
Janet wanted to be an animal caregiver since she was just a
young girl, and always loved having cats and dogs as pets. Having such
a soft spot in her heart for all animals, she worried whether she
would outlive her last cat, Boots, which she did. Later on, nothing
would light up her day as much as seeing her neighbor’s dog
Gizmo, come to visit, sit on her lap, and share a
treat!
She will be deeply missed by her children, Roxanne Wilson of
Moncton, Jeffrey Wilson (Patti) of Miramichi, and Tracey Jeffrey
(Stuart) of Sackville; her treasured grandchildren, Tyler (Liisa),
Luke, (Jessica), Krystal, and David; along with her
great-grandchildren, Mason, Rylan, Fynn, Rein and Mikk; and her
sister, Diana Knapman of Long Sault, ON. She will also be missed by
several nieces and nephews. She very much enjoyed her daily chats with
her favored niece, Sharon Kastak and her good friend, Patricia
Wallace. She was very appreciative to be invited by the
Wallace’s on their outings, even when she was not always
able to join them.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brother,
Douglas Osborne, husband, David Wilson, and sister Shirley
Kastak.
Janet was at the Saint John Regional Hospital, plus the CCU
and Palliative Care at the Moncton Hospital, during her final days and
her family would like to thank the staff for all the care and support
given. They are also very grateful to all of her friendly neighbors,
particularly her dependable friends Burpee and Debbie Butland, always
there to offer a helping hand. They are especially thankful to the
Wallace’s for their kindness and support during this
difficult time.
There will be a Memorial Service to Celebrate
Janet’s Life at the Hillsborough Baptist Church on Tuesday,
March 12th, 2024 at 1:00pm with Rev. Dean MacDonald officiating
Following the service the family will be meeting with relatives and
friends in the Church reception area for further fellowship and for
refreshments.
For those who wish, donations to the Moncton SPCA, or the
Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada, or charity of
the donor’s choice would be greatly appreciated by the
family.
Arrangements are in the care of the Albert County Funeral
