Janet Eve Reade
– 69, of Greenfield passed away with her family by her side
on Friday, January 19, 2024 at Cedarstone Enhanced Care. Born in
Truro, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Betty (Moore)
Carter.
Janet enjoyed playing
many sports while she attended South Colchester High School where she
was part of the winning provincial basketball championship team. It is
at South Colchester where she met future husband, Wayne in 1969. After
high school she enrolled in Success Business College and graduated at
the head of her class; she was recommended for an administrative role
at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College where she worked until her
retirement in 2011. She enjoyed a unique bond with her identical twin
sister, Joy. She was a dedicated mother, attending every game, horse
show, and parent teacher meeting; later in life, she gave the same
dedication to her only grandson, Simon. She enjoyed photography and
maintaining
her flower beds. Janet loved riding her 750
Virago motorcycle while traveling with her husband, Wayne around Nova
Scotia and their good friends, Glen, and Nancy MacKinnon. Janet and
Wayne enjoyed visits with their lifelong friends, Bob and Roberta
Wheldon of Weare, New Hampshire.
Janet is survived by
her loving husband of 50 years, Wayne; children, David (Vruti),
daughter, Jennifer; grandson, Simon, all of Victoria, British
Columbia; siblings, Irene Morrisey, Moncton, New Brunswick, Leonard
Carter, Brookfield, Dawn (Donald) Carter-Henderson, Brookfield; and
several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughter,
Suzanne in infancy; twin sister, Joy Carter; and brother-in-law, Bruce
Morrisey.
Arrangements have been
entrusted to Mattatall-Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro,
where a celebration of Janet’s life will be held at 3:00pm
on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, with a reception to follow. Webcasting
of the service will begin at 2:55pm AST. Interment will be held at a
later date in Brookfield Westside Cemetery. If so desired, donations
to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia
are welcomed. Tributes, words of comfort and memories of Janet may be
