A true gentleman, Jim passed away peacefully on November 22, 2024 surrounded by his loving daughters Linsey Corrigan (Jeff), Caroline Gingles (Erik), Shona Smith, and Trish Telfer (Jim). He was predeceased by his much-loved wife and soul mate Ena J.P. Smith, his parents Agnes and Harry Smith, and his brother Russell Smith (Helen). In a life full of notable achievements, Jim was proudest of his family including grandchildren Tadhg, Kate, Abbie, Stuart, Catriona, Sarah and Claire. He he will be remembered with love and affection by his dear sister Mary Smith (David), his extended family and many good friends. He will be greatly missed by his companion of recent years Aimée Roger (Frank).

While obtaining his mechanical engineering degree from the University of Strathclyde, he played soccer professionally for both the Caledonian and Stirling Albion football clubs, where he won the distinction of Scottish Cup ‘Player of the North’ as a highly regarded goalkeeper.
A lifelong traveler, Jim’s illustrious engineering career took him and his family all over the world. This love of travel extended into his retirement, where Jim and Ena had the opportunity to further enjoy travel adventures on numerous continents.
An avid golfer and curler, he was also an active member of Probus, Robbie Burn’s Club and was a constant presence on the sidelines enthusiastically supporting his children and grandchildren in their sports and activities. Jim was a fantastic storyteller. Few are … it was a gift. And he had a great sense of humour. His faith played a central role in his life and he was actively involved in the United Church, and a dedicated member of Walton United.
In the end, Jim’s wishes were simply to spend his last days with his family. Words cannot express how profound a loss this is. Jim will be remembered for his strength of character, his wisdom, his generosity and his unwavering love for his family.
Sincere thanks to the Palliative Care Team at Joseph Brant Hospital. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Walton United Church or a charity of choice. As per Jim’s wishes, there will be a celebration of life for immediate family at a future date.
