James Stanley Jesse Cramer, Beloved Son, Brother, Soulmate and Friend
With both laughter and tears, we bid farewell to our dear James, who departed this world on Sunday, March 31, 2024, leaving behind a legacy as vibrant as his personality. He was 43 years young.
As a child, James always had an appetite for adventure and was never afraid to try anything. He jumped on his pedal bike, rode his red wagon down the death-defying neighbours’ driveway skidding down his family’s steep Belleview Street, and could jump his GT sled like no other.
His love for adventure knew no bounds as he became an adult, whether he was shredding the slopes on his snowboard, defying gravity on his skateboard or going way too fast on his motorcycle. His antics were legendary and his falls even more so.
James shared a special bond with his two feline companions, Enzo and Frisket, who were more than just pets — they were his children. Yes indeed, the cats will be mentioned before the family (hee-hee). Enzo, his son and first born, has had the pleasure of being Pappa’s (must be pronounced with a French accent) feline companion since late-2007. Frisket, his daughter, has been along for the ride since late-2018.
From the moment he entered this world on September 27, 1980, in Timmins, Ont., James was loved beyond compare by his immediate family – mother Helene, father James and sister Brandi. James was also loved tremendously by his stepfather Michael Dault.
James never shied away from helping his parents. He would visit home for 10 days and ask for a to-do list, run out to his father’s yard to visit and make his sister laugh to the beat of a four-stroke motor.
And let’s not forget his soulmate, Christine Ferch – his partner in life, love and laughter. No two people were better suited for each other. Christine showed her love in many ways, including always preparing homecooked meals for him. They loved to ride, hike, watch baseball and share many, many, many and again many kabooms. The family is so grateful that James had found his special someone and that she was there with him until the end.
The stories are many, the love greater than can be described and the memories many, but we all wish we had more, many more.
Professionally James dipped his toe in a few endeavours, but art always won. In 2010, he found his true calling, apprenticing as a tattoo artist under friend Frank Iacono of YB Normal Studio of Arts. He wasn’t just a tattoo artist; he was a maestro of the ink. He tattooed in Toronto, Timmins, Vancouver and eventually West Kelowna, where he left his mark – literally – on those fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to book him.
James always wanted his own shop and finally realized that dream on July 1, 2022, when he and his business partner Dan Schlauwitz opened Punktured Art Tattoo Studio in West Kelowna.
In addition to his immediate family, James leaves behind his parents-in-law Leona and Howard Ferch, a motley crew of relatives, stepsiblings, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and a legion of friends who will forever cherish the memories of his infectious laughter, his endless jokes and his ability to fart in a multitude of dialects, including foghorn, machine gun and squeal.
So here’s to you, James. May your journey beyond be filled with endless slopes to shred, cats to cuddle and tattoos to ink. You may have left this world, but your spirit will forever linger in the memories of those whose lives you touched with your humour, your kindness and YOUR thoughtfulness.
A celebration of James’s extraordinary life will be held in Timmins on April 27 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lessard Reception Centre, 34 Elm Street South, followed by a reception at 7 p.m. at the Moneta Hotel, 331 Pine Street South.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in memory of James Cramer to Northern Ontario Animal Welfare Society (NOAWS) by visiting noaws.com and clicking the donate link. NOAWS is a non-profit group dedicated to helping solve the consequences of pet overpopulation in the communities of Iroquois Falls, Cochrane, Matheson and surrounding areas. They care for, neuter or spay, and find permanent homes for homeless animals.
