It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we share the news of the sudden passing of James Lee on September 23rd, 2024 from a tragic accident. James Lee was beloved by his wife Sarah (nee Chung) and daughter Avery; devoted and loving son to his parents Jean Hyo and Soon Ja; adored by his sisters Carol, Nancy and Michelle and brother-in-law Jaret; fun Uncle Jimmy to nephew, Julian and niece, Brooke; and loved by father-in-law Paul, mother-in-law Sandy, sister-in-law Susan (Danny), and brother-in-law Sam (Aileen).
James was born in Toronto on July 27, 1981. From the day he was born, he held a special place in the hearts of the Lee family, particularly his mother where he would often be found stuck to her in his early years as a shy boy. Born to immigrant parents, the sacrifices of his parents, and the dedication of his three older sisters shaped his character. Through his father, James learned what it meant to put family first and he also inherited his father’s undeniable charisma and positive energy. He inherited his mother’s warm, kind heart and thoughtfulness for others. He was inspired by his sisters’ successes and love of travel and worked hard to follow their lead.
His childhood passions included baseball, basketball, hip hop music, and rapping which continued through his adult years. More recent passions included writing, collectibles, biking, golf, and getting out of his comfort zone by trying and learning new things including authoring two books. He also loved connecting with people and spending meaningful time with friends. He was a light that shone bright with a determination to be better and do more. He was inspiring in his will and ability to bring comfort, joy, and laughter to those around him. People just loved our ‘Jimmy’.
His greatest joy was being a father to Avery. James loved seeing the world through his daughter’s eyes and was dedicated to creating the most fun memories. He was the best at pushing her out of her comfort zone, building her confidence, surprising her with sweet treats or toys, and loved trying new activities with her – he was her biggest fan and never afraid to be silly for a smile or a laugh. Avery brought the best out of James, with Avery he was silly, caring in the most gentle and patient way and absolutely in love. With a caring partner in Sarah, the family unit was strong.
He was a wonderful and engaged Uncle Jimmy to Julian and Brookie. He was always laughing when around kids and all kids seemed to gravitate to him – probably since he was a kid at heart and just so fun all the time.
James will be fondly remembered by family and friends for his warmth, generosity, kindness, creativity, thoughtfulness, desire to help others and sense of humour.
He will be so greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
