James (Jim) Roche Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that the family of James (Jim) Roche announces his death on June 7.
Jim was a calm, quiet man with a deep, abiding love for his wife of 57 years Sandra (Larsen). That love extended to the most precious gift he gave her, their three wonderful children Rick (Carol, deceased), Sue (Kevin) and Carolyn (Leo) in whom his spirit lives on. His love for his grandchildren Bryce, Braeden, Reaghan, Louisa, Justin, Jake and Catey held no bounds as he thrilled at their births and watched them grow and shared that same spirit he endowed to his children. To watch them in their activities as they were growing up brought him the most pleasure of all and his relationship with 20-month-old Louisa made him burst with pleasure at her demonstrative love.
Jim was born in St. John’s Newfoundland, the birthplace that never left the depths of his heart and there was not a day that he did not cherish the heritage it gave him or the tunes he would whistle for all. He last trip to ‘the Rock’ was in August of 2022 with 68 family members for a family reunion and his 78th birthday including much celebration with music and laughter. His parents John and Margaret had 11 children who all reflected the love of their parents and as the oldest surviving child Jim was the quiet leader they all inspired to follow. Jim lost his precious sister Geri Williston (Terry) in 2017 and brother John Roche (Joanne) in 2018. The remaining siblings Shirley McKee (Bob, deceased), Elizabeth Boone, Mary O’Brien (Obie), Patricia Roche (Pat), Gerard (Karen), and Jackie all have continued to look up to Jim as their “big brother” and have cherished recent visits with him. The legacy of Jim’s family leaves his 27 nieces and nephews and 31 great nieces and nephews. With Sandra’s beloved brothers, he also shared a great companionship Roger, deceased (Erma, deceased), Doug (Tiina), Dave and John (Gert).
Following 4 years of training in the RCAF, Jim’s lifetime career of 33 years was with Bell Canada and that took him on adventures of living in 5 places in Ontario as well as 3 years in England, finally moving in 2011 from London, ON to Uxbridge to be close to family.
Recreationally Jim was eager to serve his community and through 18 years as a Kinsmen, approximately 30 years in Knights of Columbus, 8 years with St. Vincent de Paul, serving for 5 years here in Uxbridge for the Glens condo board and the last 10 years as a Rotarian, he made his lasting and generous contribution.
For so many years golf was his passion as he moved from place to place there was always a golf club he was ready to join and the many lasting friendships he enjoyed. His other passion was spending time at the family cottage on Lake Huron, where you were guaranteed to find him at sunset enjoying a cocktail and a moment of quiet with Sandy, or with their boisterous family around him.
As a member of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic community in Uxbridge in his quiet way he made friends and always managed a chuckle as he talked with fellow parishioners.
His passing will leave a void in the hearts of family and friends but the warmth of many happy memories, the love and support he gave to all, and the laughter he shared with any who knew him will live on within us all.
The Roche family invite family and friends to join us in celebrating Jim’s life at Low & Low Funeral Home, 23 Main Street South, Uxbridge, ON on Thursday, June 13th, 2024 from 2-4 pm or 6-8 pm. Funeral mass will take place at Sacred Heart Church, 70 Toronto Street North, Uxbridge, ON on Friday, June 14th, 2024 at 11:00 am. Reception to follow in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sacred Heart Church Building Fund, Sacred Heart St. Vincent de Paul or Uxbridge Hospital Auxiliary. Friends and family are invited to share their memories at lowandlow.ca
