Loved and cherished father of Michael Harrington (Pam), Pembroke and the late Jerry Harrington. Dear brother of, Margaret Gormley (late Jack), Claire Cotnam (late Gerald) and Robert Harrington (Doris). Brother-in-law of Monique Harrington.
Predeceased by his sisters Mary Shields (late Mike), Marita Mulligan (late Gerald), Teresa Wren (late Mark), Maureen (Reenie) Dillon (late Jack) and brothers Patrick Harrington (late Inez), Desmond Harrington (late Betty) and Kevin (Ted) Harrington. Son of the late Thomas Joseph and Mary Frances (nee Drohan) Harrington.
Jim will be sadly missed by all his nieces and nephews.
Jim was a true gentleman; a man of honesty and great integrity. He was humble and easy going, prefering the background to the limelight. He had a great sense of humour, loved to hear a good joke and could see the humour in many situations.
Jim was a dedicated family man; a loving and devoted husband to Carmel for 67+ years, and a supportive and loving father to his sons. With his sons, he led by example B he modeled the values of a strong faith, truth, honesty, integrity, respect towards your elders and contemporaries, compassion for those less fortunate, personal responsibility and accountability, and how to be an honourable man.
Jim loved the company of his brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews. He enjoyed a casual drop-in visit from a niece or nephew as much as the family get-togethers. He loved being around family.
Jim was also known for his athletic abilities and competitive spirit. Rumour has it that he was quite quick on his feet, was a sure-handed shortstop, was hard to strike out, and even pitched a few innings for Brudenell when their ringer Pat Beggan was unavailable.
Jim was an enthusiastic curler until the age of 89. However, he was a more than avid golfer. Despite his late introduction to the game in his early 30’s, Jim quickly developed a love for golf that lasted until he was no longer able to play at age 90. He was an inveterate student of the game from the outset and thrived on the unique blend of physical skill and mental acuity that golf presented. Every game was different, each shot a new challange B just him against the course with laser-like focus, all distractions shuttered out. Perhaps the crux of Jim’s love of golf was the very nature and essence of the game itself. It was played outdoors, usually with family, friends or fellow competitors; it was a true A «sportsman’s game» where the golfer is on his honour- calls, penalties and enforces the rules on himself. A game of honesty and integrity, like the man himself. His kind of game!
Thanks for all your love, guidance, support and encouragement Dad, your time to join Jerry and all the gang has come. Your yoke of dementia has been lifted and your bonds have been loosed !
Rest in Peace.
