Obituary
LOCOCO, Jacqueline ‘Jackie’ (nee Lafrance) – Passed away suddenly at the Greater Niagara General Hospital on Tuesday February 20, 2024, at the age of 85. Cherished wife of 63 years to Dr. Michael Lococo (Sr.) and beloved mother of Joe Lococo, Don (Filomena) Lococo, Mike (Leanne) Lococo, and Marty (Laurie) Lococo. Loving grandmother of Katelyn, Nicole, Jacky, Danielle (Steven Klezok), Dante, Matthew, Martin Jr, and great-grandmother to Charlotte. Survived by her brother Donald Lafrance and Brother-in-law Philip (Roselyn) Lococo. Jackie is predeceased by her parents Achilles and Germaine Lafrance, brother Raymond (Mary Jane) Lafrance and sisters Estelle (Eugene) Menard and Vivian (Goran) Stavre. She will be lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Born in Northern Ontario and the eldest of five, Jackie helped to raise and care for her younger siblings. At a young age Jackie was specifically sought out and recruited to become the first lifeguard at her local beach to care and watch over the community. To her core Jackie was selfless and a true caregiver and always put the needs of others before herself, which is why she left northern Ontario to move to Toronto to attend nursing school at St. Josephs Hospital. There, thankfully, Mike Lococo and his friend snuck into a dance through a basement window that the nursing students were attending. Immediately Mike asked Jackie to dance, and the rest is history. Jackie excelled at school and received The Award for Excellence in Obstetrics. Jackie and Mike settled in Niagara Falls where they raised their four boys. Jackie was a member of the Niagara Falls Curling Club for several decades. Her curling career was impressive, winning bonspiels throughout Ontario with her many friends. Most notably Jackie was a member of the two-time Canadian Ladies Masters Championship team. Golf also became a passion of Jackie’s where she played at Rockway Glen and won the Senior Ladies Championship. Anyone who was fortunate enough to dine at the Lococo residence could attest to what an amazing cook and baker Jackie was. To this day, the boys still claim their lunches at school were legendary. Jackie was also a member of the GNGH Ladies Auxiliary for many years where she volunteered in fundraising and in the gift shop. Jackie was a talented passionate quilter and excelled at the craft of stitchery. Her creations remain to be admired and cherished as a permanent reminder of the beautiful, caring, and loving person she always was. She was an angel, and we were so very lucky to have her. The family would like to thank the Emergency Department and staff at GNGH for their exceptional care and compassion namely Dr. Oliver Shaw and Dawn Lawson. Friends are invited to join the family at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St. Niagara Falls, visitation will be held Thursday, February 29, 2024, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be celebrated Friday, March 1st, 2024, at 11:00 am at the funeral home, with the Rite of Committal to follow at Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer Society of Niagara Region or The Niagara Health Foundation (Ladies’ Auxiliary). Online condolences at pattersonfuneralhome.com
