Isabel Ann Weale (nee Cameron), born Dec 2 ,1931 in Barrie, passed away peacefully on Thursday March 7, 2024 at Campbell House, Georgian Triangle Hospice. Isabel had lived for over six years at Balmoral Retirement Home in Collingwood, with most of her last month at Collingwood General and Marine Hospital (CGMH).
Isabel was predeceased by her husband Albert H Weale, in November 2000, and most of her good friends and siblings. She will be greatly missed by her son Cameron Weale (Barbara), daughter Deborah Weale (John Hunter), her brother John Cameron, grandchildren Alyssa Grossman (Michael), David Weale, Andrew Weale (Hilary) and William Hunter, great-grandsons Benny and Kaden Grossman. Isabel will also be remembered by her brother-in-law Kent Weale (Sydney), nieces and nephews, friends, and their families, with fond memories of visits to Isabel’s warm and open home/chalet at Beaver Valley Ski Club (BVSC).
Isabel and Bert raised their family in Port Credit, worked together at Standard Electric Armature Ltd, and skied together winters at BVSC. They travelled across Eastern Canada and beyond for waterski tournaments. Isabel spent summers with the other Moms and kids at the Toronto Water Ski Club on Lake Muskoka.
Isabel and Bert later took up sailing and crewing, and then bought the ISCADEBE, a 42’ wooden motorsailer. It was their “townhouse in the city” as well as taking them on adventures to Florida, Bahamas, Inland waterways from Georgia to Georgian Bay. After Bert passed away, Isabel moved to her Applejack townhouse where she continued adventuring and living independently for 14 years. She enjoyed hosting family holiday meals, skiing and travelling with her friend Spiro Vozoris, dogsitting Sapphire, and being involved in Probus.
Isabel chose Balmoral Retirement Home to move to once the Applejack stairs became too much. She was one of the first to move in when it opened, Dec 2017. Isabel had a lovely suite, enjoyed the activities, and being on the food committee. The pandemic took its toll on her, being isolated and less active. Two years ago she moved to the assisted living floor. She still played bingo, took bus outings, went to singalongs and had old friends to visit and share meals with.
Many thanks and blessings to the staff at Balmoral and Chartwell/Balmoral, Dr Sauriol and staff for her guidance, the nurses and doctors at CGMH. A heartfelt thanks to the staff at Campbell House for lifting Isabel and her family up at the end of her life.
A Celebration of Isabel’s Life will be held at the Beaver Valley Ski Club, 100 Pioneer Dr., Markdale on Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 1p.m. to 5p.m.
