At the age of 88, Iris Fenton, originally of County Armagh, Northern Ireland, and most recently
of Boularderie, NS, peacefully entered into eternity on Sunday, February 5,2023 surrounded by loved ones.
Iris was born on January 6, 1935 and grew up in the town of Lurgan, just 18 miles outside of
Belfast, Northern Ireland. At the age of 14, Iris joined the workforce taking her first job as a
laborer at an eyeglass factory.
As a young woman, Iris became passionate about sharing the love of Jesus Christ with others
and regularly toured with her local Salvation Army band as a singer.
It was during one of her Salvation Army missions that she met her husband Malcolm, a
missionary from Liverpool, England who was also serving at the event. Iris and Malcolm married
in 1955 and began their life together in Brannockstown, Country Kildare (in the Republic of
Ireland) where Malcolm started his career as a Baptist Minister.
In 1958 they settled in Belfast, Northern Ireland where they served as the pastoring family of
Newtownbreda Baptist Church. Iris went on to have four wonderful boys, Stephen, Mark,
Andrew, and Simon.
In 1982, Iris and Malcolm immigrated to PEI, Canada where they pastored at
O’Leary/Springfield West/Alberton Baptist Church for a number of years. This big move
eventually led to them ministering at Fall River Baptist Church, just outside Halifax, NS, until
the late nineteen-nineties.
Her whole life, Iris remained passionate about singing gospel music. Some of her favorite
hymns included «The Love of God» and «How Deep the Father’s Love».
Iris was predeceased by her parents, Alexander & Hannah McNally, her sister Jean, her brother
Errol, and her infant son Paul.
She is survived by her husband, Malcolm, her four children, Stephen (Marie), Mark (Ellen), Andrew (Letitia), and Simon (Susan), her eleven grandchildren, and her fifteen great-grandchildren.
A special thanks to our Victoria County home care workers & administration for their years of
care, the nurses & doctors at the Northside General Hospital, and to the first responders of the
Ross Ferry Firehall.
