Sharp as a tack and full of Irish wit, she loved to tell stories to the delight of all. Mary Theresa Stella Regan Parent passed away August 24, 2024 surrounded by her family at Lakeview Manor in Riverview NB.
A beloved great-grandmother, mother and wife, Theresa was born to Mary (née Butler) and Michael Regan December 6, 1930 in Atholville, NB. She was the middle sibling among Frances, Gordon, Bernice, Marion, Mildred, Irene, Eleanor, Michael, and Billy. She was predeceased by all nine. When Theresa was just six years old, she lost her mother. The siblings were soon split up and some were destined for the orphanage in Saint John, but community members intervened, and homes were found for them in Atholville. Theresa and her eldest sister stayed with their father. Though it was not an easy childhood, Theresa was fiercely proud of her family and remained deeply close with them throughout their lives across the country.
She married Joseph Lloyd Parent (deceased December 22, 2013) on September 7th 1957. They built a beautiful life together with their three brilliant daughters: Patricia Ann Button (Marshall), Gail Parent, and Nancy Dicsi (Albert). They loved camping and the great outdoors. Theresa and Lloyd were renowned in Dalhousie for their spectacular gardens. Theresa worked in occupational therapy at the provincial hospital in Campbellton and later at Clifford’s Pharmacy in Dalhousie. She loved her work and caring for people.
Theresa was an extraordinary grandmother and happiest whenever she spent time with her 10 grandchildren, Hanna, Jacob, Thea, Sam, Emily, Kate, Andrew, Michael, Katie, and Mathew and 6 great-grandchildren Alex, Moira, Sebastien, Emmilou, Zoey, and Alina. She cherished each of them as babies and took such an interest in all their lives. Nanny T was forever their fiercest supporter, deeply accepting of everyone for who they truly are.
Theresa nourished and cared for everyone through her endless baking and making skills including her homemade bread, her molasses cookies, her “nanny-buns!, her homemade soup, her mashed potato pies and more. Her quilts continue to warm beds and her beautiful creations are still worn by her great grandkids.
Theresa was active her entire life. She was an intrepid speed skater, fearless skier, and avid walker. She took up yoga and tai chi and was always happy to move her body and motivate others. Theresa loved to travel, read, and ask questions. She took every opportunity she had to explore and learn.
Theresa will be forever missed by her family, friends and the community she created at her home in Lakeview.
Theresa’s family would like to express their profound gratitude for the entire team at Lakeview Manor for their exceptional care during the past year. They are a remarkable group of people who embody love and compassion for everyone in their community.
A funeral service will be held Saturday Oct 12, at 11am at the St. John Bosco Catholic Church, 470 Victoria St. Dalhousie, NB.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Lakeview Manor in Riverview NB, or the charity of your choice.
