Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Ian Campbell McKenzie Grant, formerly of Gibbons, AB, announces his passing on Monday Sept 4/2023. An ever-loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, he was born August 14, 1935, in Swift Current Saskatchewan, which he affectionately referred to as «Speedy Creek».
He served in the military under the Airborne Regiment for 25 yrs and met and married his wife Lore while stationed overseas in Germany. They later married and moved to Canada where they resided in various places in Manitoba and Calgary before finally settling in Gibbons for over 50 yrs, and then most recently the Turner lodge in Fort Saskatchewan. After leaving the military, Ian became an insulator with Sherritt Gordon Mines, until his retirement in 1990.
He was greatly involved in all aspects of the Gibbons Community, where he was a Legion member, Gibbons Recreation Board member, active within the cubs and Scouts, a chair of the United Church of Gibbons board, and was a member of the Biped Locomotors Volks Board. Ian enjoyed doing Volk Marches with his wife Lore and they were both volunteers of the Communities in Bloom for several years, helping to plant all the lovely flowers around Gibbons that spruced up the community. He also loved and looked forward to the annual Gibbons Town Wide garage sale. Ian was an adventurous soul and always friendly and kind to all. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife Lore, son Craig (Karen), and daughters Heather (Allen), Corinne (Gerald), and Glenda (Kevin), 8 grandchildren: Janeene, Garrett, Derek, Meghan, Kayleena, Dakota, Darin and Samantha, as well as 9, great grandchildren: Trey, Cole, Cash, Kiera, Kahl, Callie, Cyrus, Issac, and Levi. Also by 3 sisters: Donna, Gail and Dallas (Terry), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Colin, brother in- law Harvey and his parents Donald and Louise Grant.
All of Ian’s friends and relatives are invited to attend a Memorial Service and Celebration of his life on Saturday, Sept 16/2023 at 10am at the United Church 10409 100 ave Fort Saskatchewan, AB, with a luncheon to follow at the Normandy Room in the Fort Saskatchewan Legion.
