Passed away peacefully at Columbia Forest LTC Home in Waterloo, ON Tuesday February 7, 2023 at the age of 92.
Henry was born in Grafendorf, Austria on October 7th, 1930 to Engelbert Buchegger and Maria Wappl. Henry was the second-youngest of five children. Following his parents’ divorce, Henry was raised on a farm by his highly esteemed foster-parents Thomas and Maria Knoebl. At age 14 he was apprenticed as a blacksmith for five years, after which he plied his trade in Switzerland for three years.
Henry immigrated to Canada in 1952. In 1954 Henry committed his life to Jesus Christ whom he would serve for the rest of his life. Henry married Joyce Violet Davis on October 17, 1957. They were married for 59 remarkable years until Joyce passed away Dec.16, 2016. Together they raised a family of six children while living and serving as missionaries with Ethnos Canada (formerly New Tribes Mission Canada) working among the Ayore tribal people of Bolivia for 7 years and Paraguay for 5 years. Henry added Spanish and Ayore language fluency to his newly mastered English and native German. Henry and his family returned to Canada in 1972, settling in Castleton, ON where Henry returned to work as a plumbing contractor for 14 years. Henry later achieved his Master Plumbers License to serve as Plumbing Inspector for Northumberland County for 12 years until his retirement in 1998.
During his long and happy retirement, Henry enjoyed travel, gardening, family BBQs, local community life among his many friendly Castleton neighbours, and continuing to serve in his local church and community with The Gideon’s International. Henry served as Sunday School Superintendent for several years while his family attended Castleton UC, then as Elder at Cobourg Christian Missionary Alliance Church until he and Joyce felt lead to help start the Spanish Speaking church in Belleville, ON to meet the need in that community. In their sunset years Henry and Joyce enjoyed the loving fellowship at Eddystone Baptist Church, Grafton where they continued to serve in various ways as a continued expression of their devotion to their Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
