Obituary of Helen Deborah Brownridge
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Helen Deborah Brownridge announce her passing on October 31, 2024, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital, at the age of 81. She was surrounded by loved ones.
Helen was born in Green Hill, NB on November 22, 1942, and was the daughter of Percy and Annie Scott. She is survived by her children, Scott (Ellen) and Shawna Kirkbride (Jeff); grandchildren Kade, Anna, Kael, and Natalie, and several cousins. Helen was particularly close to her cousin Joan Hay who was like a sister to her; niece Kim Weir and her daughters, Lauren and Kristen; nephew Andrew Lake, his wife Tricia and their children, Patrick and Regan. Helen will also be deeply missed by her sister-in-law Dorothy, brother-in-law Ronny Schreeuwer and their four sons Doron, Ilan, Ayal and Nir (Israel); her pen pal of 72 years, Helen Meikeljohn (New Zealand), and countless friends who live across Canada and beyond. Helen also leaves behind her beloved cat and companion, Missy.
Helen worked for the Town of Oromocto for many years and was a go-to for local information. She spent her retirement years enjoying her grandchildren, socializing with her friends and travelling near and far. She had a great sense of humour and loved to laugh.
Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Ronald; sister Karen Lake; brothers-in-law Bill Lake and Warren Brownridge, and niece Kelly Lake who passed away in infancy.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to her family doctor’s office (Dr. Sarah Charlebois and Alyssa), her oncologists (Dr. Stacie Connors and Dr. Leona Johnson), Dr. Jeff Ginn and the nurses at 4SW (Holly, Kaleigh and Katie) who provided such great care for her. Thank you to the Rev. Canon Walter Williams for his words of comfort to Helen the night before she passed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, St. Johns Anglican Church or a charity of the donor’s choosing.
