Obituary
HAZEL MARGARET REICHERT (NEE- PEARSON)
It is with deep sorrow and hearts full of happy memories that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Mother, Hazel Margaret Reichert on October 30, 2024, at the age of 101 years.
Born on January 27, 1923, in the Ardell Saskatchewan District. Hazel was the sixth of nine children.
Hazel’s life was characterized by her deep love of her family, close relationships with friends, teaching and a zeal and an interest in learning, world events, sports, especially CURLING, and playing bridge. She often marvelled of the many changes she had witnessed in her 101 years.
The travelling in later years to Hawaii, England, Australia, Figi, Wales, added much more to her life and really enriched it.
In 1988 mother remarried to Clifford Scott and moved to Fort Langley, B.C. The two of them did a fair bit of travelling. They went on three cruises, Disney Land-twice and Las Vegas. Hazel and Clifford resided in Fort Langley for four years. Mother was able to reconnect with her sister Jeanette, who lived in New West Minister, B.C. After four years Hazel moved back to Saskatchewan as she missed her family.
Hazel was involved in all the activities of the farm including milking cows, hauling grain, picking rock and raising chickens and turkeys.
Mom had a passion for cooking, baking, gardening and canning. Everyone loved her fresh fried chicken. She loved going through recipes.
Her teaching career included the establishment and teaching of the first Kindergarten class in Chaplin followed by teaching Grade 1 and 2. EARLY teaching years included mixed grade classes in Country schools, including Roseneath School south of Chaplin. She was loved by many she taught who would frequently as adults tell her they “LOVED” her!! Mother was always a teacher; she was so interested in what young people were going to do with their life. She was always encouraging them.
Hazel was involved in community initiatives including; a 50-year membership in the Legion Ladies Auxiliary (Chaplin and Moose Jaw), driving for Meals on Wheels, visiting the Minto United Church and organizing bridge tournaments.
She was predeceased by her husband – Herbert Reichert, son – Garry Reichert, sisters – Alfid, Jeanette, Adele, brothers – Walter, Rudy, Carl and Paul as well as her companion in later years – Clifford Scott.
Hazel is survived by her sister – Dorothy Kilkenny, daughters – Judith and Vicki (Garnet), six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchildren.
Her selflessness, love and concern for others was a source of inspiration for all whom she met and interacted with. She leaves a legacy of compassion, strength and everlasting love.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Moose Jaw branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, and or the Moose Jaw Food Bank.
In living memory of Hazel, a memorial planting will be made by W.J. Jones & Son Ltd.
