Harry Gordon Greer passed away at home with his loving family at his side on April 5, 2024. He is survived by his deeply devoted wife of 57 years, Jean (Meredith), children Elizabeth (Larry) Grant, Christa (John Casey), and Aaron (Barbie), siblings Paul (Peggy), Blair (Nicola), Lawson (Claire), Brent, and Viola, adored grandchildren Mark Grant, Anne, Sarah, and Adrian Greer, and many loved nieces and nephews.
Harry was the eldest son of the late Gordon and Phyllis (Purinton) Greer, born Oct 10, 1940 in Woodstock, NB. He spent his early childhood in Jacksonville before moving to Meductic in 1952. He was predeceased by brother Robert and sisters-in-law Christine Greer, Barbara Greer, Eileen Graham, Louise Oldford and Joan Kelley.
Harry’s first loves were his Lord and Saviour, his family, and his community. He served as a Deacon at the Meductic United Baptist Church for many years and was a Board member for Shiktehawk Bible Camp. He had terrific fun driving and maintaining the Sunday School bus and was Sunday School Superintendent. Harry also served as the Meductic Fire Chief for 44 years and inspired many young firefighters.
Harry studied Auto Body Journeyman in Moncton and still had his first toolset, awarded for graduating top of his class. He owned Greer’s Body Shop for many years and loved to chat with anyone who stopped by. Harry worked for Sabian Cymbals for over 25 years before retiring in 2006. He was thrilled to spend his retirement as Grampie when Mark was born, and travelling to the US to visit Anne, Sarah and Adrian. Harry loved spending time at his woodlot cutting firewood and tapping trees for maple syrup, or in his vegetable garden. Nothing brought more pleasure than sharing his produce with neighbours. His last sentence was asking Brent if he had put his garden in yet!
The family would like to thank Dr. Mike Chandra whose attentive care allowed Harry to remain at home in his final months and Nicole who assisted with nursing care during his final hours. Also the many neighbours who stopped by to help – your kindness meant the world to us. A special thanks to Bryanna and other caregivers who were so kind to Harry.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Meductic Fire Department or Shiktehawk Bible Camp.
Visitation will be held at Carleton Funeral home on Thursday, April 11 from 3 to 8pm.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday 2pm at Meductic United Baptist Church. Reception following at Meductic Community Centre, Route 165.
