It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Harry Blinkhorn on August 23, 2024, at Freeport Hospital in Kitchener, Ontario. Surrounded by his beloved wife Betty and family, Harry passed away at the age of 100.
Harry proudly served in the Canadian Armed Forces, with the Cape Breton Highlanders, during World War II. After his courageous service, he returned home and found his life’s true love, Betty. The couple, who met in Florence, Nova Scotia, were married in 1949. They eventually settled in Ontario, where they built a cherished life together, raising their children and contributing to their community. Harry and Betty recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary.
Loving father of George (Lyn), Harry (Pat), Tom (Kathy), Gerard (Debbie), Derek (Deborah), Earl, and Paul (Lory).
Cherished grandfather of Nancy Blinkhorn-Smart (Duncan), Brian Blinkhorn, Chad Kieswetter (Cara), Eric Blinkhorn (Trista), Gail Ash (Darcey), Crystal Johnson (Andrew), Shannon Allison (Bob), Mike Blinkhorn (Carly), Chris Blinkhorn (Kirsti), Lauren Blinkhorn, Jeff Blinkhorn (Jennifer), and Craig Blinkhorn (Kristin).
Harry was an adoring great grandfather of 17 and great, great grandfather of 2.
Predeceased by his son, Wayne Blinkhorn (infancy), grandsons Scott Blinkhorn, Brad Kieswetter and Steven Kieswetter, parents Arthur Blinkhorn and Alice (nee Luker) and siblings, Arthur Blinkhorn (Anne), Lillian McDonald (Stan), Mae Higgins (Thomas), Martha Budden, and Melroy Budden.
Thank you to the staff at Freeport Hospital – Palliative Team, for their continuous care and support over the last 2 months.
Harry and Elizabeth’s family will receive relatives and friends from 9:30 – 10:15 a.m., on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener, 519-749-8467. Memorial Service will take place in the funeral home chapel at 10:30 a.m. A reception will follow. Private family interment will be held at Parkview Cemetery.
