Gwennyth (“Gwen”) Randolph passed away peacefully at St. Patrick’s Home, Ottawa on Sunday, February 12, 2023, in her 101st year.
The youngest daughter of the late William John and Priscilla (Hankin) Bradley, of Ottawa, she was predeceased by her husband, Elmo Attlee Randolph, her daughter, Rosemary Gwennyth and two sons, John Bradley and Brian Edwin. Also predeceased by her older siblings and their spouses, Wilfred and Phyllis (Barnes) Bradley, Edith (Bradley) and Austin Short, Dorothy (Bradley) and Merton Campbell, and John and Margret (Lyons) Bradley. She is survived by her daughter, Priscilla Marilyn Randolph of Toronto, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A native of Ottawa, Gwen grew up in Lindenlea, attended Lisgar Collegiate, business college, and worked for the federal public service. In January, 1943, she enlisted in the Women’s Division of the RCAF. Following her posting to Torbay, Newfoundland, she met her life partner, Sgt. Elmo (Randy) Randolph, who was with the U. S. Army at Fort Pepperell, the American forces base at Quidi Vidi. Following their marriage in October, 1944, the couple settled in the USA, and raised their family in Athens, Georgia, and Pensacola, Florida. They returned to Canada soon after Randy’s retirement and lived in Toronto and Ottawa.
Gwen enjoyed being back in Ontario, closer to family and old friends. She remained active in her church, until losing her independence to failing health, and cherished her relationships with friends from Lindenlea, High School, her Air Force days and the family, many friends and acquaintances she met while living in the United States.
Gwen’s extended family would like to thank the staff at St. Patrick’s Home for the loving care and attention they gave to Gwen during the last years of her life. We are also deeply grateful to Gail Potts who was a long-time dear friend and a regular visitor and to Bob and Betty Goodson, who worked tirelessly to ensure Gwen’s well-being during her years in long term care.
