It is with the
greatest of sadness that we announce the passing of Gregory Lawrence
Hughes on October 14,2024 at the Doctor Everett Chalmers Hospital in
Fredericton,N.B.
Greg was predeceased
by his beloved parents, Lawrence Hughes and Margaret (McGinley) Hughes
and his sister, Linda
Hughes.
Greg is survived by
his wife of 45 years, Susan Hughes(MacNeil), and his pride and joy,
Son, Bradley(Adriane Craft) and Daughter, Jennifer(Nathan
Brennan). If Brad and Jenn were Greg’s pride and
joy than Greg’s (Papa) granddaughters, Lily, Lucy &
Veronica were the light of his life. Whether it was their
trips to the Dollar store or sleepovers and Sunday nachos at Papa and
Susie’s, Greg loved every minute of his time with his
girls.
As anyone knows of
the Hughes clan, if you know one Hughes, you know them all.
Greg will be greatly missed by his sister, Catherine (Bill Seto) and
brothers, Mark (Marlene Finnie), Barry (Karen Gibson) and Cyril (Amy
Whytewood-Hughes) as well as several nieces and
nephews.
Greg was born and
raised as a lifelong proud Devoner except for a weak moment when Larry
& Magaret moved their young family to Southwood Park before
coming to their senses and returning to Devon. Greg started
his career at Tingley’s Save Easy before spending the last
30+ years as a salesman with Mulder’s Meat. Greg
was well liked by co-workers and customers
alike.
Besides family and
friends, Greg’s other passions were a good game of crib and
was a lifelong sports fan. Whether it was playing ball for the Boat
Club team in his younger days or cheering on (and being equally
frustrated with) his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs and Dallas
Cowboys. A more loyal fan you’ll never
find.
Greg will now be at
peace in heaven, where Kerry Fraser gives Gretzky the 5 min. major and
his Leafs go on to the Finals and beat the hated Habs in 4
straight!
Thanks to the staff
at the DECH for making Greg comfortable as possible in his final
time.
Visitation will be at
Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Rd., Fredericton,NB
on Friday, October 18th from
3:00-6:00pm and the Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October
19th at St. Anthony’s Catholic
Church, 603 Union St., Fredericton,NB at 11:00a.m. with Father Maria
Arioka as celebrant. Interment will follow in the St.
Anthony’s
Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life
will be held for Greg at Dolan’s Pub on Saturday, October
19th from 1:00-5:00pm. We encourage all of the
many friends that Greg made over the years to pop in, raise a glass,
tell some stories and most importantly have some laughs to celebrate
Greg’s life.
For those who wish to
make a memorial donation in Greg’s honor, the family has
suggested the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund where Greg was a
longtime member or a charity of the donor’s
choice.
Bishop’s
Funeral Home & Crematorium 540 Woodstock Rd. have been
entrusted with the arrangements.
