It is with profound sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Greg Brenneis at the age of 66.
Greg will be always loved and deeply missed by his soulmate and wife Karen Brenneis and their two sons: Wyatt Ronald Brenneis (Grace Franke) and Nolan Lawrence Brenneis, (Hailey Kiyan). His grandchildren: Josephine Laurel, Wells Vernon, and Thomas Gregory Brenneis. His siblings: Carol Vandersteen (Don), Dave Brenneis (Renee Kowalchuk), Gloria Rakowski, and Dianne Herbert. His surrogate daughter Sarah Chandler (Brian Beaton), Many nieces and nephews, and a close-knit community of special friends and neighbors, and his dog Darby. Greg is predeceased by his Father Lawrence and Mother Teresa Brenneis.
Greg was born in Edmonton and raised on the family farm in Morinville, AB. In his early years Greg rode in rodeo’s and made a living driving equipment in road construction. Greg made the move to Fort McMurray, AB for work in 1982 and met the love of his life, Karen in 1989. Karen and Greg welcomed their first son, Wyatt to the world in 1992. They married in 1993 at Heritage Park in Fort McMurray and shortly after welcomed their second son Nolan in 1995.
Greg built Karen her first dream home in Saprae Creek in 1997 where he had his horses in the backyard and raised his boys with the values and morals most important to him. The next 23 years of Greg’s life were spent being a devoted father, husband and friend.
Greg started his career at Suncor as an Equipment Operator in 1984. He held many different positions in his 35-year career, working his way up to his final position as a leader and coach where his personality and experience allowed him to excel. The safety of those working with him was always his top priority.
In 2017 Greg built Karen her second dream home and retired on the Shuswap River in Enderby, B.C. where he continued to be a devoted Husband, Father, Papa, Uncle, Brother and special friend to many. Spending his days helping anyone he could, doing woodworking and being a lifelong Oilers fan, watching every game. Greg enjoyed boating, hunting, fishing, trips up the mountain with Darby, enjoying the sun and soaking in every minute of “Happy Hour” with Karen. Greg lived his life to the absolute fullest while never taking a moment for granted. His calm, humble, kind, loving and teasing presence will be missed beyond measure.
