Greg Storseth Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Greg (Gregory) Alan Storseth on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at the age of 65.
Left to mourn are his wife of 38 years, Kim Storseth (nee Petrick), son Brendin Storseth (Allison), daughter Danielle Storseth, grandchildren Ruby and Elliot, sister Brenda Derksen, brother Bruce Storseth (Jackie), sister Betty Ann Merke (Dan), sister Marie Storseth, bother-in-law Andrew Petrick (Maria), sister-in-law Patricia Machado, bother-in-law Doug Petrick (Karen), bother-in-law Paul Petrick (Maureen), and numerous nieces, nephews, and very close friends.
Greg is predeceased by his father Helgi Storseth, mother Verna Storseth, father-in-law Thomas Petrick, mother-in-law Verna Petrick, brother-in-law Richard Petrick, brother-in-law Edwin Derksen, and brother-in-law Joseph Machado.
Greg was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on February 4, 1959. He grew up in North Kildonan and spent all his summers at the family cabin at Bird Lake, in Nopiming Provincial Park. He inherited a love of fishing from his mother, and he was an avid hunter in his youth. Later in life, he continued his passion for the outdoors at Falcon Lake with friends and family.
At an early age, Greg met the love of his life, Kim Petrick, and they married in 1986. They have two children, Brendin and Danielle. Although Greg worked away for most of his career, he made sure he spent time with family camping, travelling, and supporting their needs. Later in years Greg and Kim loved to winter vacation in warmer climates, where Greg often spent his birthday with his feet in the sand.
Greg apprenticed as Millwright starting in 1976, and eventually changed his career to become a Steamfitter. He spent his early career working with Comstock on power stations projects in Northern Manitoba. While with Comstock, Greg and his family spent three years living in Sundance, Manitoba, before moving back to Winnipeg to live closer to friends and family. In 1994, he started working with FWS Group, where he worked his way up to the position of Superintendent. During his time with FWS Group, he travelled from coast to coast to coast, working on industrial and agricultural projects. Greg took great pleasure training people and sharing his knowledge.
In 2014, Greg retired from FWS Group, and he renovated the cabin at Falcon Lake into a dream retirement home. In retirement, Greg’s thumb turned green, and he and Kim enthusiastically took up gardening together. They built a large garden in their back yard and shared their harvests with family and friends. They’ve had great times with their Falcon Lake friends, sharing laughs during Friday night smokie roasts at the end of their work weeks.
In 2021, Kim and Greg tried their hands at being Snowbirds, and fell in love with Mesa, Arizona, where they spent the next three winters. As a sports fan, Greg followed the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Winnipeg Jets. His dream came true when he attended a NASCAR race in Phoenix, Arizona, after a lifelong passion for the sport.
Greg loved his family and friends with all his heart. Through out his traveling for work, living in Sundance, weekends at the lake, and relaxing in Mesa, Greg made many wonderful friends. He created time to help his family, friends, and people in need. He was never afraid to take on a new project, and always had something on the go. He spent as much time as he could with his wife, siblings, kids, and grandchildren. Spending time entertaining children with his silly antics, jokes and love to make them was one of his great joys, as he was a big kid at heart. He was ecstatic to become a grandfather and loved every minute he spent with his grandchildren.
No words can express how much we will miss you Greg/Dad, and you will always be with us.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, from 11AM to 2PM at the First Unitarian Universalist of Winnipeg, 603 Wellington Crescent, Winnipeg, MB. A recording will be made available for anyone who is not able to attend; details will be provided on the Tribute Wall at a later date.
