Obituary of Gordon Robinson
The family of beloved husband, father and grandfather, Gordon Harold Robinson, 76, of Westville, NS, wish to announce his passing on December 3rd , 2023 at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, NS.
Gordon’s childhood family and upbringing defined his character and the life choices he later made in life. His father adored and was adored by his mother. From his eight siblings he learned or received respect, calmness, love, gentleness, warmth, compassion, kindness and a youthful companion. As a middle child it is no surprise he was connected strongly from the oldest to youngest of his brothers and sisters. Any attempt from anyone to talk poorly about them (whether from inside or outside the family) were taught quickly that conversation was coming to an immediate end. He only had time for love and praise for any of them.
His hands were sure. This was shown through steady hands on a steering wheel while driving with the friends of his youth, the two homes he built and upkept, the vehicles he kept running, his flowers beds, his garden or his pristine lawn. His love often said, “The thing I’ll miss about your dad the most are those rough, old, hardworking hands.” He expressed love more by doing than talking. Because his hands were sure.
We are all warmed to know he is reunited with Betty. His light, his guide, his love. He is now once again able to walk into a winter forest to make a campfire with baked beans with his gentlest son. I am sure he has already had a glass of rye with his calmest and gentlest brothers on a front porch on a summer’s day. From his father he has received a glass of dandelion wine and his adored, protective mother a long, heart wrenching bosom filled hug. In his spare time he will likely be making identical (possibly fraternal) dirt bikes for his one spicy and other tranquil boy he is waiting to see. His frequent treks with his only grandchild, Tyler, to Tim’s for coffee, doughnuts and timbits will also resume.
He shared 49 years with Betty. Even though the last year and some of his life he faced many stiff obstacles, he would not have changed anything. These hard years were lightened substantially by his nurses on the 5th wing of the Aberdeen Hospital and palliative care. There was continual clever and sincere banter between Poppa/Gordon/Gordo/Gordie and his nurses. These nurses do a vocation with precision and compassion. The goodness the Aberdeen exudes stands on their shoulders. For a man who only had sons you are most certainly Gordie’s girls.
Gordon is survived by his sons, Jim, Westville, and Mark, Truro; grandchild, Tyler; brothers, John Robinson, Scotsburn, Margret Sutherland, Union Centre, Annie (Bob) Payne, Westville, Mary Lou (Keith) Conway, Westville; Karen (Alec) Ryan, Westville; Artie (Darlene) Robinson, Hardwood Hill, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Betty (Bradford); son, David; brothers, Sandy and Fraser Robinson.
Public visitations will be held at Eagles Funeral Home, 1611 N Main Street, Westville, NS, on Wednesday, December 6th from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A public funeral service will be held at Church of The Holy Name, North Main Street, Westville, NS, on Thursday, December 7th at 11 a.m. with Father Peter MacDonald officiating.
