Obituary of Gordon Ronald Ingham Funeral Service
With broken hearts we regret to announce that Gordon died on May 8th at the Halifax Infirmary, after a quiet battle for four years with neuroendocrine cancer.
Born in Toronto Jan 24, 1967 to Eric and Diane Ingham, Gordon moved to New Glasgow in time to start school. Little did he know that meeting a little girl named Lauren on his first day of Grade Primary would begin a love that will never end.
He moved with his family to Bridgewater in 1979, and returned to New Glasgow to complete Grade 12. Old friendships stood strong and the hearts of Gordon and Lauren became one when they married in 1989.
The role of “Dad” came in 1996 when Christine was born; another little girl that stole his heart. He stood in amazement at this beauty in his life, so proud of her sense of adventure and zest for perfection. In her he had a kindred spirit, and oh, how he loved her. Her pending wedding in June will be difficult without him, but he would want only joy for Christine and Scott for that day and always.
Gordon worked for 32 years at Michelin in Granton starting in 1987, working for extended time in both Receiving and Planning, and forming great friendships along the way. He was proud of his work there, but knew there was another chapter of his life to explore, and retired in 2019.
He then built a garage and expanded his woodworking hobby, turning out artistic and practical items, (albeit at a snail’s pace) that will be cherished for years to come. He also worked at Smith Rock Chalets for two years as a part time maintenance person, a role he enjoyed until his health declined.
His journey as a drummer was reborn in 2009 when he joined the New Horizon Concert Band led by Paul Barrett. This led to multiple pit bands for Rotary Play musicals, Pictou County Brass and Reed, and The Dixie Rovers, and wherever else a drummer was needed. Last month he assisted at a band workshop for new elementary school percussionists.
The only thing to keep him away from a band rehearsal was sailing. With Captain Ian at the helm and Taff, Peggy and Keith most often manning the ropes, Gordon loved to race all summer long. He wasn’t a chatty guy, but when he did have something to say it had meaning, or it was hysterically witty. Either way, people listened when he spoke. He was the quiet, solid beat to our lives and countless others; the King of seeing what had to be done and just doing it.
Gordon is survived by his parents Eric and Diane Ingham, his best friend and soulmate Lauren, cherished daughter Christine (Scott Landovskis); sister Nancy Brooks (Allan), and their children Sarah, and Gregory (Brianna); sister Heather MacDonnell (Bruce), and their children Emily Sorochan (Morgan), and James; father-in-law Wilfred Grist; brothers- in-law Ken Grist (Cindy) and their children Andrea Grist, Jennifer Smith (Phil); Greg Grist (Justin) and Kevin Grist (Charlene) and their children Alex and Ash; four grand nieces and nephews, uncles Larry Ingham (Vivian), David Ingham (Marion), aunt Jill Taylor.
Gordon was predeceased by his mother-in-law Helen Grist.
His funeral service will be held at 1 o’clock Friday, June 14 from St. Andrew’s Church, Pictou with Rev. Pat Wilson officiating.
Donations can be made to Pictou County Brass and Reed, QE2 Cancer Centre, or simply support every school music program by attending a concert and advocating for music programs in schools. Family Flowers only.
“God bless Gord!”
