It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Kelly aged 87 of Petley, Random Island. Gordon passed peacefully away with his daughter Joy Watton, daughter in-law Irelene Kelly and his previous home care worker Pearl Watton by his side at the Miraquinn Hilltop Manor on November 19, 2024.
Predeceased by his wife Margaret Kelly. His parents David and Sarah Kelly of Deer Harbour. His brothers Frank, Donald and Wallace Kelly, sisters Elizabeth Kelly, Beulah Purchase, and Bina Watton. Sons David and Bill Kelly, his daughter Elizabeth. Mother and Father in-law Mary and Eliol Bailey. Brothers-in-law Eldon, Steven and Lesley Bailey. Son in-laws Barry Watton and Sonny Brake.
Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his daughter Joy Watton (Bob), son Chris Kelly (Julie), daughter in-law Irelene Kelly. Sister Violet Bailey (Timothy-deceased). His grandchildren Stephanie, Kimberly (Draper), Sarah (Jeremy), Sheldon (Cheryl), Jonathan, Tiffany (Andrew), Shane (Kourtney), Brittany, Dylan (Michaela), Devon (Natasha). His great-grandchildren Emily, Joshua, Haylee, Nicholas, Ashton, Kristopher, Danielle, Haile, Benjamin, Avery, and Owen. Along with a large circle of extended family and friends that includes the residents and staff of the Hilltop Manor.
Gordon was born and raised in Deer Harbour. It was in Deer Harbour where Gordon began fishing as a young man, got married to his wife Margaret and started his family. When resettlement took place Gordon along with the other families in Deer Harbour moved to other parts of Random Island. Gordon’s new place of residence was in Petley. After several years living in Petley, Gordon built their new family home. Gordon continued to fish until his retirement, but still loved and enjoyed many days on the water fishing with his son David. Gordon also loved hunting, fishing, picking berries, cutting and gathering wood and growing his own vegetables as a means to provide for his family. He was a man who loved the outdoors and could always be found outside picking at something or going for a ride on his quad. Once Gordon’s health started to deteriorate and living home alone with home care support was not enough Gordon moved to the Miraquinn Hilltop Manor in Hickman’s Harbour in 2021. It was here that Gordon lived a peaceful and happy life until his passing.
Gordon will be loved and missed by many.

Visitation: Thursday, November 21st, 2024 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm
Funeral service to take place on Friday, November 22nd, 2024 from Vardy’s Funeral Home at 11 am with interment following at the United Church Cemetery, Britannia.
Born and raised, that was me
a Newfoundlander, proud to be.
In life I shared my love and glories,
But now I’m gone, think back to stories.
When you feel the coastal air,
Just close your eyes because I am there.
I’m in the breeze for you to feel
And in your heart to help you heal.
Remember me and times we shared,
I thank you all who loved and cared.
