Gordon Quick Obituary
It’s with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing, in a family home, of Gordon Quick on June 19th in Calgary, AB at the age of 68 years old.
Gord was born May 7th, 1956, in Fort Macleod, Alberta.
From the earliest days of his life he was a fighter. His determination, strength and genuine love formed him to be: Our inspiration in life!
He began his career as an upholsterer. He then became a painter and a bartender. He worked side by side with his Dad (and sister Eileen) as an upholsterer and their fine craftsmanship can still be witnessed locally at The Historic Empress Theatre in Fort Macleod, Alberta.
Gord always had a love and passion for creation. He was well sought after for this precision of residential and commercial painting and he always tried to talk his family into allowing him to paint their houses, even when he wasn’t supposed to.
As a favourite bartender at The Queens Hotel, people would come from near & far to pop in for a beverage and a good chat in full connection with Gord.
Gord was a down to earth and easy going kind of guy. He never asked for anything. Well…. except for Sherry’s baking!
He was a friend to everyone and a stranger “was just a friend he hadn’t met yet.”
He loved & treasured his family and friends; he was such a genuine & caring man, who would help anyone in need.
He was very friendly and would talk to anyone, even more so if paralyzers & Fireballs were in the mix.
He had such a good sense of humour and enjoyed keeping people on their toes with his pranks.
Throughout his life he was always a true gentleman.
Gord enjoyed hunting, fishing and the great outdoors. He loved going down to the river, even in sock feet, to watch the deer & moose. Gord travelled by thumb, across Canada, from Victoria to Ottawa. He was an avid walker, going about town, stopping to see friends or playing a crib or pool tournament. He was a real pool shark.
Gord will be lovingly remembered by his life partner, Sandy Soltesz, his surviving sisters, Eileen Baird and Donna Wesley. He will also be missed by his nieces Denene (Rob) Mitrunen, Sherry Trotter, Anita Lounsbury and his nephews Daren Wesley & Bobby (Emily) Wesley as well as great nephews and nieces, cousins, chosen family and dear friends. He was predeceased by his loving parents Robert Edward Quick and Laura Eileen (Goodwin) Quick.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:30pm – 5pm on Thursday June 27, 2024 at Fish and Game Park, 555 Lyndon Road, Fort Macleod, AB.
