Obituary of Giuseppe Di Nucci
Giuseppe (Joe) Di Nucci

It is with much love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Father and Nonno in his 90th year. Loving husband to Livia for 64 years. Dear Father to Silvana (Perry Gelakis), Philip, Joanne (Matthew MacGregor). Adoring Nonno to his grandchildren, Alexander, Bianca, Jameson (Lexie), Maia, Isla, Isabella, and Julia. Survived by brothers John (Connie), Nicola (Concetta), and sisters Annina, Lucia (Angelo), brother-in-law’s Michele Clemente (Giuseppina), Antonio Clemente (Maddalena). Predeceased by his parents Filippo and Ermalinda, siblings Carmela, Costantino, and Maria. Giuseppe was loved and respected by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family in Canada and Italy. He will be missed by his loving friends with whom he shared experiences of raising children, enjoying family gatherings and the adventures of growing up in and around the village of Carpinone, Italy.
Like many in post war Europe, Giuseppe took a ‘Leap of Love’ to join Livia who preceded him for the prospect of a better life in Canada in 1959. Together, they worked incredibly hard to assimilate to a new culture, establish a strong family foundation, all while keeping the customs and traditions of their homeland near and dear to their hearts.
His giving and helpful nature, and first to start and last to leave energy, made him the most reliable and supportive of helping hands to friends, family, and St. Mary’s Parish.
Giuseppe loved to dance with Livia, volunteer his time with the Knights of Columbus, laugh with friends, play jokes on family, and play bocce with his grandchildren. Friends and family benefited from his vast knowledge of the trades and his children and grandchildren learned so much about the culinary arts of curing meats, making delicious tomato sauce, cheeses, and wine.
A class act until the end, Giuseppe carried himself with pride and grace. “I am doing my best!” Although he had many reasons to be less than optimistic, he always found the strength and energy to sincerely thank his medical staff for their efforts and individually connect with each friend and family member to thank them for visiting him, with his signature kissing of the hand. Giuseppe has left us with an incredible legacy of love, laughter, connection, and regular reminders of what is truly important.
“Saying hello and being nice to others doesn’t cost you a thing!”
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to our father’s healthcare providers at Parkwood Institute, in the Stroke Rehabilitation Unit and the Palliative Care Unit. Your compassion, care, support, and humanity throughout our father’s journey will not be forgotten.
Family and friends will be received at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo St, London, on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Please join the family at St. Mary’s Parish, 345 Lyle St, London, Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock for the Funeral Mass. Interment will be held at St. Peter’s Cemetery following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army London Village – Adult Day Program or St. Mary’s Parish, would be appreciated.
