It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Giuseppe Chioran, aged 85, on November 23, 2024.
Beloved husband and best friend of Rosalina Chioran (nee Tonolo). Loving father of Antonette (David) Pagniello, and Luisa Chioran (Kevin Meek). Dear Nonno of Cassandra Cameron, Brittney Pagniello, and Taylor Pagniello. Great-Nonno of Daisy and Sawyer. Survived by his brothers Lucio Chioran (late Livia), Paolo Chioran (late Adriana), sister Anna Antonel (late Gino), and sister-in-law Alba Chioran. Predeceased by his brothers Bruno Chioran, Antonio Chioran, and sister Maria. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends in both Canada and Italy.
Born on December 10, 1938, in Pasiano di Pordenone, Italy, Giuseppe was the beloved son of Agostino Chioran and Emilia Semenzato. He immigrated to Canada in 1956, where he built a life filled with hard work, joy, and love.
Giuseppe settled in North York, later in Mississauga, before moving to Woodstock in 1996. A true Jack-of-all-trades, Giuseppe’s career spanned many fields, from farming and forestry to working as a lumberjack, concrete forming, a finish carpenter, and construction worker. No task was too daunting for him; his strong hands and unwavering work ethic made him a respected figure wherever he went.
Giuseppe’s love story with Rosalia began on the dance floor, where their shared passion for dancing blossomed into a marriage on September 22, 1962. Together, they welcomed two beautiful daughters, and Giuseppe’s love for fatherhood knew no bounds. His daughters were his pride and joy, and he embraced fatherhood with great warmth and enthusiasm. A man of deep faith, Giuseppe was a dedicated member of St. Rita’s and later Holy Trinity Catholic Church, where his unwavering belief in God guided him throughout his life.
A man of many passions, Giuseppe loved music, always playing it loud with a smile on his face. He had an infectious sense of humor and was known for his kindness, generosity, and support. He loved being in the company of others and found joy in the simple moments of life. Whether it was enthusiastically watching soccer, a Formula 1 race, cheering on his favorite hockey team, or enjoying a game of cards, Giuseppe approached each moment with a sense of celebration.
Giuseppe’s love for food was expressed though his mean lasagna and filling the barbeque grill, which he would prepare with love for family and friends. He also had a soft spot for animals, especially his cherished pets—dogs Toby and Shadow, and his canary Robbie and finch Filipo—who brought him immense joy.
In recent years, Giuseppe devoted himself entirely to caring for Rosalia, becoming the rock of the family and showing unyielding love and support. He never complained, and his positive, glass-half-full attitude inspired those who knew him.
Giuseppe will be remembered for his unshakeable faith, his zest for life, and the love he gave so freely. His legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Every day with him was a celebration, and he will forever be our Daddy.
Guests will be received at Smith-LeRoy Funeral Home, 69 Wellington St. North, Woodstock, on Wednesday, November 27, between 3 – 7 pm. Another visitation will take place on Thursday, November 28, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1420 Devonshire Ave, Woodstock, between 11:00 – 11:45 a.m. Funeral Mass will follow at 12:00 p.m. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Guests are invited back to Holy Trinity for a reception in the Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing, may donate in Giuseppe’s memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, or simply contribute a memory or write a message to the family.
