Born September 13th, 1934, Gisela passed on the gloriously sunny morning of December 21st, 2024 at Bluewater Health in Sarnia, with devoted family at her side, holding her hand. Born in West Berlin, Germany as the only daughter of Rudi and Charlotte Jorende, Gisela spent her childhood as a witness to the atrocious bombings of Berlin during WWII. Persevering through extremely challenging times, Gisela immigrated to the United States as a young woman in the early 1960’s, where she met the love of her life, Nicholas «Lucky» Malik. They settled in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, and later in Rochester Hills. They also split their time for many years on the Costa de Sol, in beautiful Spain. In 1987 Nick and Gisela became residents of Point Edward, Ontario; thus began Nick’s extraordinary life of public service to the area, and Gisela’s collaborative efforts and support in all his endeavors. She unfortunately lost her beloved husband Nick in 2004, a tragedy of immerse proportions. This tumultuous time however eventually led years later to her long-term relationship with Jack Schwab, who was much adored but sadly also proceeded her in death…as did many of her closest friends. Throughout her life, Gisela was always the first to send out cards and messages, no matter what the occasion or accomplishment. She never missed an anniversary or important milestone in someone’s life. Undoubtedly, many people will wonder this year why they did not receive a Christmas card from her. Gisela’s proudest accomplishment however was being a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and family historian including keeper of the photographic archives, which will now be lovingly passed on. She is survived by her daughter Christina Marie Malik (Sean Justus), granddaughters Christina Gisela Consolo (Scott DuVall), Amanda Catherina Consolo, Dana Marie Cracana (Filip Cracana), Alicia Joanne Consolo, and great-granddaughters Olivia and Bella. Her Remembrance Ceremony will be Saturday, May 31st, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia with visitation being held from 12 noon until ceremony time at 1. A reception will follow at The Smith Family Centre. The family suggests warm spring colors be worn to the service, in keeping with her uplifting spirit and final wishes
