Obituary
Goodwin, George Royden – 85, of Barrington Passage, formerly of Clarks Harbour went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 15, 2023. He was the seventh child of Hubert and Seretha (Swim) Goodwin born on April 14, 1938. George was a fisherman most of his life until a government retirement program made it possible for him to complete his high school education, proudly receiving his grade 12 certificate. He then decided to create wood crafts and eventually furniture making, assisted by his wife Marsha who hand-painted many pieces. George led an active, healthy life-style with hobbies such as walking, hiking, gardening, rowing his skiff and dories and in earlier years a runner of many races including the Nova Scotia Marathon. As a member of the Queen of Hearts Dory Club, he completed a row with relay teams from Cape Sable Island to Halifax with dory-mate Buddy Jones, raising money for the Wish Foundation and Big Brothers. He was recognized for 35 years as a blood donor. George served 2 terms as councillor for the Town of Clarks Harbour. He was a Sunday School teacher to young boys, superintendent of Sunday School, Deacon and song leader in his church. George was also an avid Red Sox fan. George is survived by his wife, Marsha (nee Smith) Rennehan; the proud father of son, Kempton (Denise); daughter, Michelle Cleveland (Charles Jacquard), “daughter” Julie (Forman Jr.) Crowell; grandchildren, Samantha (Mark Boudreau), Brittany, Kamden, Katyn, Kazleigh; step-grandson, Daniel Quinlan; great-granddaughter, Blake Boudreau and step-great-granddaughter, Emily Quinlan. He is also survived by brothers, Frank (Parnell), Robert (Diane) and Earl (Priscilla); sisters, Doreen (Sheldon) Symonds, Kaye Atwood and Shirley Brannen; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, George was predeceased by sister, Faye Fraser and brother, Hubert. The family would like to extend a big thank you to Dr. Yee, VON, and Continuing Care workers, especially Carla, Karen, Shelly and Rhonda who made it possible for George’s wishes to be carried out, by staying in his home. There will be a public visitation held from 6-8 pm on Thursday, October 19, at the H. M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 20, at 2:00 pm from the Stoney Island Baptist Church with Pastor Wayne Crowell officiating. Donations in his memory may be made to the Rosalin Nickerson Care Fund, Fidelis House, Kentville, NS or charity of your choice.
