George Alfred Henderson – 87, Truro,
passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at home. Born and
raised in Pictou, he was a son of the late Clarence and Catherine
(Matheson) Henderson.
George served with Royal Canadian Air Force for 26 years and
then went on to work in the warehouse at Midland Transport. He and his
wife, Doris, enjoyed going for drives and exploring around the
province. He was a talented woodworker and made doll houses, tables,
cabinets, shelves, bird houses and coffee tables, among other things;
family and friends have been the recipients of these items over the
years and will treasure them forever.
George is survived by his sons, James Henderson, Nanaimo,
British Columbia; David (Juanita) Henderson, Kemptown; daughters,
Cathy Henderson (Mike), McLeese Lake, British Columbia; Mary Matheson,
Truro; grandchildren, Mark, Sean (Melissa), Alex, Sean, Gabriel,
Corey, Krysti (Matt), Sarah (Josh), Taylor (Carson); great
grandchildren, Seth, Hanna, MacKenzie, Gavin, Regan; sisters, Peggy
Foley, Three Brooks, Pictou County; Barbara Johnstone, Annapolis
Royal; Marion Berry, Blackfalds, Alberta; Helen Creighton, Windsor;
brothers, James (Ella) Henderson, Onslow; Everett (Beth) Henderson,
Three Brooks, Pictou County; Alan (Anna) Henderson, Three Brooks,
Pictou County; Allister (Maryanne) Henderson, Alberta; several nieces
and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Mary
Doris (Pellerine); sister, Ethel Sutherland; brothers, Clarence
Henderson, Jackie Henderson.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall –
Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where the funeral service
will be held 2 p.m., Friday, August 18, 2023, Reverend April Hart
officiating. Spring interment in Stella Maris Cemetery, Pictou. If so
desired, donations in George’s memory to a charity of choice
