It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Arnold Baudoux, of Hopewell Nova Scotia.
Gary is survived by his wife Colette Condon-Baudoux, his sister Debbi Urquhart ( Wayne Urquhart), his
nephew Luke Austin (Amber Austin), his great niece Taylor Austin and his great nephew Kingsley Austin,
sister-in -law Jeanette Baudoux his step daughters Erika Muir (Allan Muir) and Angela Cameron (Hannah
King), his step grandchildren Sophie Cameron-King, Iris Cameron-King, Cameron Muir and Ella Muir. Gary
is predeceased by his brother Dennis Baudoux, mother Dorris Baudoux and father Arnold Baudoux.
Gary graduated from St FX in 1970 with a Masters in English and taught various high school grades in
several schools in Pictou County with the majority at Stellarton High School. Gary was passionate about
literature, especially poetry, and often recited snippets of his favorites for his great niece and nephew,
and his step grandchildren. Gary was a lifelong learner and teacher and could often be found in his
favorite recliner with a book in hand.
At a young age Gary joined Cadets and later the pipe and drum band where he became the pipe major. A
highlight of Gary’s youth was when the band traveled to Banff, Alberta to perform. He carried a lifelong
love of pipe and drum music. In his youth Gary was also a part time stick boy with his father’s (Arnie
Baudoux) hockey club and often showed up in team photos. He had a passion for the game of hockey
that lasted his lifetime.
An avid salmon fisher Gary shared his love for the sport with his dear friends, especially «The Fishing
Buddies”. He was a long time member of Cooey Coffre, a fishing camp in Guysborough, established in
1920. Gary loved the rivers and lakes of Nova Scotia and covered many miles on numerous canoe trips
with friends. Many weeks were spent at Camp Aspen and fishing on the St. Mary’s River with his angler
friends, with great food and laughter.
Once retired from teaching Gary put his heart into his beautiful property in Hopewell, Nova Scotia. He
produced maple syrup from his sugar bush, maintained and loved his honeybees (aka ‘his girls’), and
planted and tended to gardens that were second to none. With his wife Colette he made his property a
warm home and welcomed family, friends and community for maple syrup boils, or to simply ‘drop by’
for a chat and to pick up some honey. Gary was a loving, social person: when you met Gary you knew
you were in for a ‘good chat’. Gary formed lifelong, lasting friendships with many friends from his school
days. He cherished his friendships with Lawson Breen, Henn Soosaar, Vic Fraser and Lawerence Dunn
who he taught with for many years.
Gary’s affiliations with various organizations and clubs are too numerous to mention although he was a
long standing member of the First Presbyterian Church, The Eastern Angling Club, and on the Board of
the Childrens’ Aid Society.
Gary so enjoyed time spent with all the children (some now young adults) in his life. He was fiercely
proud of their many accomplishments and always eager to share the latest news about his great niece
and nephew, and his step grandchildren. Gary took great comfort in his close relationship with his
nephew Luke, constantly mentoring, sharing and teaching him his values and great depth of knowledge.
Gary passed away after a brief illness at the Aberdeen Hospital on Dec. 3 , 2024. We would like to extend
our thanks to the staff at the Aberdeen Hospital, and at Valley View care home.
Arrangements in care of the H.W. Angus & H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Homes. Family and friends may join
together for a Visitation on Friday, December 13, 2024 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the H.C. MacQuarrie
Funeral Chapel, Stellarton , with the funeral to follow on Saturday, December 14th at 2 p.m. at the First
Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, with a reception to follow. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Memorial donations may be made to the Aberdeen Hospital, Feed Nova Scotia, or the Atlantic Salmon
Federation.
