1955-2023
Gary James «Torrock» Toney
– age 67, of Annapolis Valley First Nation, Cambridge,
passed away on Monday, January 2, 2023 in the Valley Regional
Hospital, Kentville. Born in Berwick, he was a son of the late
Lawrence Sr. «Chubby» and Mildred «Minnie» (Smith)
Toney.
Gary was a certified welder and was employed
with the Annapolis Valley First Nation Band office for many years. He
loved his family, especially his nieces and nephews who he treated
like his own children. Gary had a zest for life and treated everyone
equal. He was loving, caring and embraced whatever life brought with
integrity and understanding. Gary and his best friend Brian Toney were
always up for an adventure, whether it was going for a drive or
enjoying McDonalds or Dairy Queen at the Coldbrook Park. He also
really enjoyed spending time with family and friends at Subway
restaurants.
He is survived by sisters, Chief Janette
(Lloyd) Peterson, Charlotte (Derb) Fralick and twin sisters,
Anita Toney and Marilyn Kennedy; brother, Randy Toney, all of
Annapolis Valley First Nation; sister-in-law, Marlene Toney, Annapolis
Valley First Nation; brother-in-law, Keith Julien, Millbrook First
Nation; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, as
well as great-great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Laverne Julien;
brothers, Jerome Toney, Ricky Toney and Chief Lawrence Toney Jr.; and
his best friend and cousin, Chief John James «Brian»
Toney.
Visitation will be heldfrom 2 to 4 p.m. and 6
to 8 p.m. on Monday, January 9, 2023 in the Annapolis Valley First
Nation Bingo Hall, Cambridge, where the funeral service will be held
at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 10, 2023. Father Michael Walsh
officiating. Burial will take place immediately following the service
in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Kentville. A reception will be held in the
Annapolis Valley First Nation Bingo Hall, Cambridge. A webcast of the
funeral service will be available on Wednesday, January 11, 2023.
Donations in memory may be made to Diabetes Canada. Funeral
