Gary Artz Callaghan «Kid Callaghan», age
60, of New Glasgow, passed away suddenly Sunday, July 9, 2023. Born in
Madison, Wisconsin, he was a proud Canadian. He was a son of the late
William «Blinker» and Shirley (Dee) Callaghan. Gary
was employed with the Pictou County YMCA and was a former employee of
Atlantic Superstore. He was well liked, had a large, diverse group of
friends, a contagious laugh and an ability to remember times and
dates. He enjoyed many years training and coaching at the Albion
Boxing Club. He also enjoyed Tarzan movies and was a dog lover; he
will be missed by his dog, Cyrus. Gary is survived by a brother,
James, New Glasgow; aunts: Eva Dee and Ann Callaghan; uncles: Aubrey
(Ethel) Dee, Herbie (Carol) Dee and Charles MacLean; several cousins.
Visitation 7-9pm Thursday, in R.H. Porter Funeral Home, 55 Almont
Ave., New Glasgow. Funeral 11am Friday, in First United Church, 81
High Street, Trenton, with Rev. Rosemary Godin officiating. Burial in
Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the
SPCA.
