Gary Ferguson Obituary
It is with a mix of emotions that we announce the passing of Gary Allen Ferguson Sr., who passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born on August 6, 1945, in Moncton, he was the son of the late Stewart and Eileen (nee Smith) Ferguson.
Gary leaves behind a family including his children Gary Allen Ferguson Jr, and Mary Linda Ferguson Clairmont (Barry Thibeau); nephew Mark Ferguson (Angela Ferguson); grandchildren: Emmett Parrish, Brianna Ferguson, Sebastien Clairmont, and Peyton Clairmont; great grandchildren Wiley and Floyd; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Gary is predeceased by his brothers “Stewart” Gayland, Wayne, Terry, Greg, and “Ricky” Richard; and granddaughter Cameron Clairmont.
Gary worked as a licenced machinist by trade. He is remembered in his younger years for enjoying fishing, tending to a garden or tinkering on cars. The fondest memories are of watching with awe and wonder as he brought to life on paper whatever he was asked to draw. We believe he could build anything he set his mind to.
In later years, it is said he enjoyed crafting, country music and spending time with his friend, Adam. He sponsored a child through Salvation Army for many years and his Baptist faith was important to him.
Gary had a journey that many may not fully understand. Although he left when Gary Jr. and Mary Linda were young, his absence was felt deeply, shaping lives in ways that words alone cannot express. While we may not have shared precious moments together, his legacy lives on through the lessons learned from absence and the resilience built through navigating life’s challenges. We remember him as a part of our family story, one that is about forgiveness, compassion and the complexity of human relationships.
Gary’s talents resonate with the creativity and passions instilled in us, his family members. Though we may not have experienced many special moments together, we honor the essence of his life and acknowledge the impact he had on us all. As we say farewell, we extend our thoughts to those who knew him better and may cherish different memories, especially those at Rocmaura Nursing Home where he made his home for the last 20 or so years. May he rest in peace.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John, NB E2J 2G3; (506) 646-2425. As per the families wishes, cremation has taken place with no visitation and graveside service to follow. A private family burial will take place at Flora Hills Memorial Gardens, PEI, next to his parents and other family members. Donations in Gary’s memory can be made to Saint John SPCA, Schizophrenia Society of New Brunswick, or any other meaningful charity of choice.
