It is with great sorrow and sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Garry Vincent James Starr on August 20, 2024. Garry leaves behind his partner Patrisha Geerts. Sons Silver, Sparrow, Saint including his children in B.C, Sabastian, Spirit, Sienna, Soul. His mother Paulette Starr and mother-in-law Barbara Clews.
Garry Starr was effortlessly talented at anything he set his mind to. His dedication started when he learned every trick he could skateboarding and then further making up his own. There’s a photo of him in grade 8 that made the newspaper with his great tricks that I hope everyone gets the chance to see. He started work as a landscaper and quickly rose to the top with his talent, also making friends with the boss with his quick wit and charm. He tried a job at Pizza Hut, but quickly decided it wasn’t for him. Garry took on a long career of being a successful tattoo artist. Tattooing friends, cousins, aunties, uncles, and those strangers lucky enough to be able to share his art. Garry grew into a career of woodworking and chainsaw carving teaching himself step by step, learning by just his own mistakes and perseverance. Even after he broke his back and hip he didn’t let that bring him down; he enrolled himself in a personal trainer course which was a 3 hour ride one way by bike and train yet he still got perfect attendance and top of his class. He could fix anything you put in front of him with just some time and a little bit of resources. Whether it be renovations or working on any vehicle he was the man we could rely on. Garry could negotiate himself out of anything, the sellers at the market would always wonder where he learned his good bargaining skills. Beyond all of his skills the best thing he has ever become is a dad, a leader and an example for us. He spent endless days of our boys 6 years making sure they were always happy, healthy and had more than everything and anything they needed. He enjoyed spending his leisure time with the boys drawing, camping, fixing RC trucks or doing any activity the boys could find their mind to.
Garry passed away very unexpectedly and tragically. His wit, charm and endless jokes will forever be missed and always remembered.
He taught our boys to be strong and brave, to always stand up in the face of danger. That nothing is as scary as it may seem. We will make sure that with every step we take moving forward that we remember you’re always right beside us taking that walk with us, especially on our toughest days. Every action we make moving forward will always be made with your voice in our minds. Your pictures will be our memories to our constant reminder of what a privilege of a life we got to be around and witness for your 45 years on Earth. We promise that Not a day will go by that we will ever stop loving you.
While you’re making our home for us beyond those “pearly white gates” don’t bug them to much; Garry Ward, Connie Ward, KoKo, Shumas and Uncle Mitik
To our knight in shining armor, we will see you again.
