Schmidt, Frederick William
Absent from the body and present with the Lord, Bill passed away on June 21, 2024 at 93 years of age.
Born in Lipton, Saskatchewan on April 19, 1931, Dad grew up in the Niagara Region. He married Viola Baerg in 1952, serving faithfully at Calvary Church in St. Catharines, Ontario. Later, they farmed in Winona, Ontario, where they raised their family. In the 1990’s, Bill and Viola managed guest houses in Zambia and Botswana, Africa, where they served as missionaries for six years with Africa Evangelical Fellowship. More recently, they were involved at Immanuel Baptist Church in St. Catharines. Dad loved to support missions both financially, and in any other practical way that presented itself.
Bill was predeceased by his Viola, his wife of 68 years. Together they had three children: Marlene Herb (Jon), David Schmidt (Susan), and Wayne Schmidt (Dawn). Bill was grandfather to their five grandchildren: Jonathan Herb (Beth]), Bethany Herb (Robert Montgomery), Benjamin Schmidt (Christine), Jacob Schmidt, and Lisa Wilsdon (Ian). He was great grandfather to Jeremiah, Joseph, Anna, Nellie, Adelaide, Natalie, Brielle, Maverick, Naomi and Molly.
Bill will be remembered for his industrious work ethic and his steadfast faith. We are thankful that Dad is now safely resting in the presence of the Lord.
Memorial service will take place at the Vineland Chapel of Tallman Funeral Homes (3277 King St., Vineland) on Wednesday July 3 at 2pm to which everyone is invited. An hour of visiting before the service will begin at 1pm. Reception to follow in the Fireside Room following the service.
