Peacefully at Rockwood Terrace on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at the age of 75 years. Beloved husband of 55 years to Linda (nee Fisher). Dear father of Paul (Monica) of Caledon, Michele Goss (Bill) of Teeswater, Bruce and Karen (Xavier) all of Kitchener. Proud grandfather of Megan Goss, Alex Goss (Amy), Matthew Stoddart (Kati), Sydney Stoddart (Dylan) and Spencer Stoddart. Dear brother of Doug Stoddart and his wife Georgina of Berkeley, Brian Stoddart of Chatsworth, Wayne Stoddart and his wife Marianne of Markdale and Christine Foster of Hamilton. Survived by his brother in-laws Pat Gillen, Bob Fisher, Don Fisher, Buddy Fisher and sister in-law Carol Ottewell (Bob). Predeceased by his parents Frank and Hazel (nee Harvey) Stoddart, sisters Sharon Stoddart, Isobel Scriver, June Hutchinson (Gord), brothers Bob Johnston and Don Stoddart and sister in-law Nancy Fisher. He will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Frank was born on June 11, 1947 in Markdale to Frank and Hazel. He attended Markdale Public School and then Centre Grey District High School before enrolling in the Royal Canadian Navy at age 17 (1964-1974). His main station was at HMCS Shearwater, Dartmouth, NS serving on the HMCS Bonaventure “Bonnie”. As a child Frank, met the love of his life Linda on one of his adventures to Flesherton. Frank married Linda in 1967 and together they moved back to Flesherton to raise their family. Frank will be fondly remembered for his 30+ years of service as a firefighter ending his career at the Flesherton Station, as Deputy Fire Chief. He worked for the Bluewater District School Board for over 30 years and retired in 2012 as head custodian at Grey Highlands Secondary School.
In retirement Frank trained and ran 3 half marathons, one of which with his son Paul. He enjoyed spending time snowshoeing, walking his dog, golfing and attending local standardbred races. Frank and Linda enjoyed traveling together and spent much of their time visiting with their grandchildren.
Frank will be fondly remembered by his community, friends and family for his kind heart and generous nature. Frank always took the time to help those in need without any thought of anything in return.
The family will receive friends at the Fawcett Funeral Cremation Reception, Flesherton on Tuesday, May 30 from 11:00am until time of service at 1:00pm. Private family interment at Flesherton Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Canadian Lung Association or Sick Kids would be greatly appreciated.
