Francesco (Frank) DiPietro
Saturday March 7, 1936 – Friday June 28, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Francesco “Frank” DiPietro who passed away peacefully on Friday June 28, 2024 at the age of 88 surrounded by his family.
Frank was born in Sudbury to Pietro and Augustina (Porcelli) DiPietro both predeceased. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Catherine (Caverson) DiPietro of Sudbury. Cherished loving father of Peter of Ottawa, Lisa Heffern of Sudbury and Paula Biondi (Dan) of Sudbury. Loving Nonno to Emily (David), Allison (Nick), Francesca, Giordano & Zuma and Bisa Nonno to Brooks, Hayes, and Henry.
Dear brother to Dominic DiPietro predeceased (Louise), Rosina (DiPietro) Proulx predeceased, brother-in-law of Raymond Caverson (Merle) both predeceased, Richard Caverson (Bruna), Dora Grannary, Guy Caverson (Wendy Watson), Reggie Caverson and Don Grannary predeceased. He will be fondly remembered as “Dippy, Uncle Dippy, Uncle Frank, Zio Frankie” by his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Frank graduated from Sudbury High School and pursued his apprenticeship as an Electrician with Parent Electric. In 1964 he proudly started his own company, Nickel City Electric Ltd. with his partners and was a recognized member of the IBEW Local 1687 for over 50 years until his retirement at the age of 72. He was also an outstanding member of the Sudbury Construction and the Home Builders Associations for many years. Frank was well-known for taking great pride in and being meticulous in his work.
As a devoted Catholic, Frank was a man of deep faith and a life-long parishioner of Christ the King Church as well as a member of Christ the King Centre Board of Directors. With his strong community connections, he will be dearly missed by his parish, neighbours, and friends.
Frank’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, particularly Sunday night dinners, special gatherings, and extended family events. He especially loved attending all his children’s and grandchildren’s activities and spent countless hours in hockey rinks, sports fields and dance recitals throughout his life. He was an avid golfer, curler and had a passion for horse racing. He would regularly be found on weekends in the paddocks of Sudbury Downs tending to his horses which he treated like many of the family pets he had throughout his life.
No less important were his cherished friendships from childhood, his Wembley/Homewood neighbours of 54 years, his Tim Horton’s coffee crews, and the amazing friendships he and Cathy developed while spending winters in Florida. They all held a special place in his heart.
Frank took great pride in everything he did which was especially evident in the meticulous grooming of his lawn. He had a strong work ethic and high moral values. He taught his children and grandchildren to work hard, play hard and respect everyone especially themselves. He was always there to lend a helping hand when anyone called and would drop what he was doing to do so.
We would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Bill McMullen, Dr, Dan Krawczuk, Dr. Julie Bowen, Dr. Amy Nistico, Dr. Dinkar Shukla, Herman Reich of Herman Pharmacy and the many other medical professionals who provided Frank with excellent care. Also, our heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at Health Sciences North Emergency Department and especially the nurses of Sixth Floor South.
