Fran Dance
It is with deep sadness that we announce that our mom, Frances Kathleen Dance, passed away on Sunday, June 2nd at Campbell House Hospice in Collingwood.
Frances Kathleen Dance (Alexander) was born on May 31, 1930. She was predeceased by her husband, William Thomas Dance, her parents Harold and Kathleen (Moore) Alexander and her brother Robert ‘Bob’ (Marie) Alexander. Her in-laws John (Beatrice or ‘Billy’), Jim (Kath), Ruth (Charlie) and Frank have also passed. We had just celebrated mom’s 94th birthday when she passed away. She was the last of a generation of Alexanders, and Dances.
Fran is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law William ‘Sandy’ (Nancy), John (Jan), and Michael (Rose). Her grandchildren are Sean, Mitchell, Michaela (Richard), Eric, Mark, and Taigan, Christopher (Stephanie), Connor (Trika) and Nicole. Fran’s great grandchildren are Malcolm and Jolie. Nieces and nephews Katherine, Shauna, and Sheilagh; Tom and Linda (Jim, Frank); Marge and Frances and their families remember ‘Aunt Fran’ fondly.
Fran had a wide network of friends, acquaintances and colleagues from many of her interests and pursuits. She was the most remarkable role model and mentor to us and our children. Fran loved her family deeply and supported all of us like few others could.
Mom was an alumnus of Toronto Western Hospital – now Michael Garron Hospital – and, through that institution, the University of Toronto. From early days as a Public Health nurse to a later career as a Home Care Coordinator in the county, mom was a nurse through and through. She loved alumni activities through the General and Marine and with her Western alumni group.
Over the last few years, she slowed down, but Fran’s true self often showed in how she was with others where she lived and other locations. Just during her last stay at the hospital, when visited by one of the physicians, after she was examined and with her health the focus, mom asked the doctor what she could do for her. That is and was the Fran we all know and love.
Thank you to the staff at Raglan Village (and recently, Cathy Kusiar) for their care for mom over the past several years. Thank you to the staff at the General and Marine Hospital for their dedicated care for mom on her visits and stays there. And a heartfelt thank you to the staff and volunteers of Hospice Georgian Triangle, Campbell House, a place she absolutely loved and supported, for their devotion and support as mom made her way in the last few days.
Following Fran’s wishes cremation has taken place. A private family interment at First Presbyterian Cemetery will take place, followed by a gathering of family full of stories and good cheer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Georgian Triangle – Campbell House or the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital in Fran’s memory.
