Floyd A. Page
1933-2023
Floyd Allison Page passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023,
at home in Coldstream. He was born March 13, 1933, and was the son of
the late Alban and Marguerite Page. Besides his parents he was
predeceased by his siblings, Elinor (Stephen) Haywood, Glen (Marie)
Page, Muriel (Walter) Smith-Cook, Dalton Page, Naida (Raymond) Cook;
and brother-in-law, Alton Fox.
Floyd is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 65 years,
Helen Page of Coldstream; children, Wayne (Beverly) Page of
Coldstream, Jeffrey (Marie Carten) Page of Coldstream, Mary (Roy)
Burpee of Jacksontown; grandchildren, Stephen (Rebekah) Page, Amy
(Michael) Lutes, Jennifer (Greg) McCleary, Nicholas (Stephanie Connor)
Burpee, Jordan Burpee, «adopted» grandson, Josh
(Ocean) Prosser; great grandchildren, Kalia Page, Lilyana Page, Laney
Page, Russell Page; sister, Donalda (Irvine Curtis) Fox-Curtis;
brother-in-law, Hugh (Laurel Anne) Smith; several nieces and
nephews.
Floyd was born, raised and died in Coldstream, in the home in
which he lived in his entire life. He met Mom when she was barely a
teenager and waited several years for her to get old enough to get
married. He loved her and cared for her faithfully through the years.
He taught us by example how to be a good spouse, parent and friend,
and to protect and care for those that we love.
Although he did many things during his life; woods work, oil
truck, construction, heavy equipment, bridge work, mechanic, business
owner and truck driver, to name a few, farming was what he loved the
most, and did the longest. His one wish, after combining in 2022, was
that he would be able to make one more season in the year that he
turned 90. Unfortunately, due to health restraints, that did not
happen. However, we were able to take him to the field for a few
pictures and to watch the combine working in the field. For many years
he, and his brother Glen, ran a successful farming and trucking firm,
operating 25 transport trucks with Day and Ross Ltd.
In his younger years he loved to fish and hunt. After
retirement, he took up gardening with a passion. His garden was big
enough to feed the entire family. He and Mom would spend countless
hours tending and harvesting it every year. The family all enjoyed the
fruits of their harvest, especially the pickles, beets and relish that
he always helped Mom prepare, grumbling all along about all the work
that it was. He kept saying, «Next year I’m not
going to do it again»; but he always did.
Also, after retirement, he took up wood working making
countless folding TV tables, fiddlehead cleaners, towel racks, wall
shelves and countless other interesting things. Some he sold, but many
he gave away.
A life long member of the Coldstream Baptist Church, he
served in various capacities through the years. He was an avid gum
chewer, but only one kind would suffice, Wrigley’s
Doublemint Gum. Nothing else would do.
Almost 40 years ago, Dad and Mom bought a cottage on Sandy
Beach at East Grand Lake. For years, they spent as much time as
possible there, with Dad being the lakeside handyman for anyone who
needed something fixed. Just call Floyd, if he can’t fix it
nobody can. Countless hours were spent playing in the lake, hauling
skiing and tubing kids behind the boat, and enjoying family and
friends.
Dad had one of the kindest and generous hearts you will ever
find. Everything he owned, sometimes to Mom’s chagrin, was
up for lending, including Mom’s car. I don’t know
if we ever heard him say no to anyone. He was always lending, or
giving, money to drivers who didn’t have enough money to buy
food on the road. Growing up there were five of us around our table,
but Dad was always bringing someone home for lunch or supper,
sometimes several times a week. He would bring farm hands, truck
drivers, friends and strangers. Mom never seemed to complain, or
mind.
We will all miss you Dad, and all of the many things you did
for all of us.
Visitation will be held at the Britton Funeral Home, 2 High
Street, Hartland, on Sunday, November 5th from 2 to 5 p.m. and on
Monday, November 6th from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral will be on Tuesday,
November 7th at 1:00 p.m. from the Coldstream Baptist Church with
Pastor Michael Horsman and Pastor Jeremy Simpson officiating. The
interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Hartland. If so
desired, donations to Camp Shiktehawk or the Greenwood Cemetery would
be appreciated. www.brittonfh.ca. 506-375-4343
