February 6, 1939 – May 24, 2024
On Friday, May 24th, 2024 at Wellington House L.T.C.F. Prescott, Findlay Hill passed away peacefully with his family, at the age of 85 years. He spent his early years growing up in the rough part of Glasgow. Some of his earliest memories are of surviving the Nazi bombings with his mother and brother. As a young man he started working different jobs on ships and became a mechanical engineer. He had many adventures sailing from different ports in Europe, Africa, Australia and North America. In 1968 he decided to become a citizen of Canada, where he would spend the rest of his life. When not working on the ships he would often reside around the Toronto area. He met his first wife, Margaret Atkin, on ships in the early 70’s. He had two sons with her, Findlay Jr. (1975 -) and James (1978 – 2012). In the early 80’s he decided to move to Brockville and settle down in the area. He met his second wife Sandy in the early 90’s and married shortly after. They bought a house in Prescott, fell in love with the area and spent the rest of their lives here. After working for all of their adult lives they were able to retire comfortably on Victor Road and live out there days in relative peace.
Findlay was a Past Master of Central 110 Mason Lodge in Prescott and member of Royal Arch, Scottish Rite of 32 Degree Masons, The Orange Lodge and Black Chapter.
He lived happily the last two years of his life at Wellington House in Prescott developing many friendships with Staff and Residence including his very special friend Eileen. He actively participated in all that he could, entertaining residence and staff with his quick whit and crazy Scottish accent. He will be missed.
A private graveside service will be held and all Mason’s are welcome. Interment in Prescott Cemetery 975 Edward St. N., Prescott, In lieu of flowers, place a donation to the SPCA, Parkinson’s Society, Wellington House Resident Activities Program or share a special memory of Findlay at www.mackayfuneralhome.com
