Obituary of Ewart Dean
It is with sadness that the family of Ewart Jewer Dean announce his passing on January 26, 2023 at the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Center in Botwood, NL at the age of 94 years.
Left to mourn are his wife Doris, who has been his lifelong partner for 74 years, as well as his children Raymond (Pauline), Linda, Lorne (Eleanor), Dianne; grandchildren Stephanie (Marc) Labelle, Catherine (Simon) McIlroy, Ryan (Bethany) Dean; great grandchildren Audrey and Benoit Labelle, Brynn and Isabelle McIlroy and Hudson Dean. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be sadly missed.
Ewart was born to Isreal and Janet Dean in Horwood, NL, on January 4, 1929. He spent just four years there until his father passed and then returned to Botwood with his family. He was the last surviving member of his family of twelve siblings.
His working career spanned 43 years, beginning with the A.N.D. Company and ending with Abitibi Price and in a number of capacities, but primarily with the railroad which connected Grand Falls-Windsor to Botwood.
Ewart loved the outdoors and spent a lot of his time over the years at his camp on the Point Leamington Highway where he would hunt and fish. Ewart also loved to travel and did so when given the opportunity.
Ewart was a member of the Jubilee Pentecostal Temple for many years and took on the role of usher for approximately 20 years. Ewart took great comfort in reading and listening to the news to stay current with world affairs.
The family would like to sincerely thank the Staff of Lane’s Retirement Home and the Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Center for their compassion and loving care provided to him over the past two and half years. Also, to the staff of Hoskins Funeral Home for their assistance during this difficult time.
There will be no public visitation; a private family service will take place on Monday, January 30, 2023 at Hoskins Funeral Home, Botwood. The family kindly requests that everyone in attendance wear a mask. Interment to follow at the Pentecost cemetery, Kings Ridge Road, Botwood.
Donations in Ewart’s memory can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
