Obituary of Everett Alexander Paynter
January 10, 1927 – Tantallon, Saskatchewan
July 15, 2023 – Calgary, Alberta
Everett was born on January 10, 1927 and raised on a farm near Tantallon, SK. He completed high school, and then attended the college of Agricultural Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. During summer employment one year, he met Jessie Bell, who was born and raised in Regina and working as a private secretary at the time, and after he graduated from U of S, they married. They moved and lived in several different communities during Everett’s working career, and also during retirement years, such as Saskatoon, Regina, Sherwood Park, Sundre, Cochrane and then for the third time, in Calgary. They had one daughter, Janice Raven (John), and five sons, Rod, Randy (Laurie), Keith, Bruce (deceased), and Graham (Liz). They were also blessed with ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Everett’s working career consisted almost entirely of management positions in the refining, distribution and marketing of petroleum products with such companies as Hi-Way Refineries, Royalite, Pacific Petroleums (Pacific 66) and Petro-Canada from which he retired in 1983.
Everett’s volunteer work during retirement included Chair and founding member of the Mountain View Waste Management Authority in Sundre, and for a time he served on the board of the Alberta Environmental Research Council, a former arm of the Provincial Government. Over the years, Jessie and Everett were active in community and church affairs. He served as a church treasurer as well as treasurer for the Sundre Community Van Association.
As for hobbies and areas of interest, music played a big role, and he entertained many folks while playing the saxophone, piano or guitar over the years. Everett loved to sing the ‘Oldies’ and had almost an endless list of melodies and lyrics at the tip of his tongue. Other interests included digital photography, billiards, family history, current news and political events, and reading in the areas of history, philosophy as well as fiction.
Everett passed away peacefully with his family by his side on July 16, 2023. He was predeceased by his brother William (Bill), his son Bruce, and grandson Nathan.
