Obituary
Eugenia Freskiw, affectionately known as Jean and Baba, was born on August 4, 1955, in Miedzyborz, Poland to the late Mykolay Moskal and Maria (nee Birosz) Moskal. She passed away peacefully with her family by her bedside on August 27, 2024, in Newmarket, Ontario, after a courageous and graceful battle with cancer. Eugenia was a compassionate, strong and faithful member of our family and of all the communities she touched. In July 1974, she met the love of her life Nick Freskiw whom she married on August 30 1975. Together they weaved their way through married life with hope, faith and love stitched through every piece of fabric of their life together creating a blanket of love for all of those they touched. Eugenia’s greatest joy was spending time with her three children, Adrian (Jennifer), Mary (Don), and Nadia (Sergio) and her grandchildren: Nicholas, Noah, Alessia, Danilo and Tashi.
Eugenia was a woman with many talents, and shared them joyfully with her family, friends, and community. Many people in her life have enjoyed all the meals that she would put together often with the sole intention of bringing family and community together. Her specialties were Ukrainian foods she made, recipes passed down from one generation to another. Eugenia’s home is adorned with many embroidered pieces she has created through her lifetime. She especially took pride in her garden at home and at the cottage. Her love of God, prayer and connection brought her to the Rosary Apostolates Group in Bradford where she touched hundreds of school-aged children. Eugenia also worked for several years at Campbell’s Soup mastering the art of working a forklift and operating equipment, which was no easy feat. She also was an adventurer, venturing off into the wilderness to spend time with her children either on camping adventures, hiking in the mountains, flying in a small plane, and travelling the world.
Besides her children, she is survived by her sister Teresa, Nadia (Jan), brothers Janek and Mirek (Jane), several nieces and nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother Andrij, brother in-law Sam, sister in law Grazyna, and nephew Matthew. Eugenia’s legacy will live on through her family and friends, who will remember her as a loving, supportive, and empowering presence in their lives. Her unwavering belief in the potential of those she loved will continue to inspire them as they navigate their own journeys.
A Panahyda will be held on Friday August 30, 2024 at 7pm at Cardinal Funeral Home, 92 Annette St. Toronto. The Family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Elaine Bouttell and the Oncology Team at Stronach Regional Cancer Centre at Southlake and Dr. Cindy Hoi-Yung So and the Palliative Care Team at Southlake Regional Health Centre for their compassionate care and support. The Family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the clergy from Holy Martyrs of Japan in Bradford and the clergy at St. Josephat’s Cathedral in Toronto for their divine support and prayers.
