Eugene was born on the farm in Vesna, Saskatchewan and his love of rural life was clear to all who knew him. The farm, the seasons and the people were especially important to Eugene and often we were regaled with his appreciation of the benefits of growing up on the farm in rural Saskatchewan. Eugene graduated from Norquay High School and for the following several years worked at Cherewyk’s Red and White grocery store as well as the Norquay Hotel.
In early 1962, Eugene moved to Regina where he worked at Sears and subsequently decided to make a career with Greyhound Canada where he spent the following 31 years as a professional bus driver. As a valued member of the Greyhound team, Eugene was called upon to drive charter trips throughout Canada and of course, the United States. Eugene was very proud to have been assigned and to be responsible for all of the passengers over the years. Upon his retirement from Greyhound, Eugene was recognized for having traveled 33,000,000 miles without an accident. This was an unbelievable accomplishment. As you would expect, Eugene retired but didn’t stop working he continued to work as a farmhand for Sask-Alta Farms and driving School Bus for the Regina School District. As well, Eugene was extremely active with St. Basil’s in Regina where he held executive positions and was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus where he was a fourth degree Knight.
Eugene was a wonderful man of character and especially enjoyed the events that were very much a part of his life which included the church, his community and of course, the Stychyshyn and Cherewyk families. Our most sincere appreciation goes out to the medical teams that provided exceptional consideration, compassion and commitment over these past few months including the Norquay Nursing Home. The Stychyshyn family will be eternally grateful. Most of all, Eugene was a proud brother, uncle and friend who will be missed every day.
Eugene was predeceased by his parents Mike and Mary, sister Dorothy and Robert Bullock, brother-in-law Edward Mydynski, his dear friend Joanne Nikodem and is survived by his sister, Eugenia Mydynski, brother Terry (Patricia), sister Elaine Derksen (David), sister Lorraine Arthur (Keith) and many nephews, nieces, family and friends.
