Emily Dutchak, beloved wife of Ernest Dutchak, passed away peacefully at St. Paul’s Hospital, Saskatoon, SK, on February 19, 2023, at the age of 86 years.
Emily was born on June 7, 1936, in the Hamton district of Saskatchewan; the daughter of Mike and Nellie (nee Wowk) Boychuk. She attended Olesko school and helped on the family farm with chores as well as caring for her brothers and sisters. She enjoyed playing ball and connecting with family and friends.
Emily was united in marriage to Ernest Dutchak on July 21, 1957, and together they farmed in the Amsterdam area and were blessed with four children. She grew to love their home, the farm, and all the visitors that came over the years. Emily was a wonderful mother and “Baba” who loved her family. She was devoted to the Tadmore Ukrainian Catholic Church and an active member of Boychuk Church. She enjoyed watching her family members participate in sports and Ukrainian dancing. Emily took great pride in growing a huge garden, pickling and canning endless jars of produce as well as selling eggs, cream, and cottage cheese from the farm. She was well known for her deep fried perogies and cream.
After 62 years of working and caring for the farm, the couple moved to Saskatoon, where Emily most recently called home. During her life, Emily enjoyed visiting family and friends, tending to outdoor chores, and loved to cook and bake. She always ensured that visitors didn’t leave the farm hungry.
Emily will be missed and her memory will always be cherished by her husband of 65 years, Ernest; four children: Charlie (Val) Dutchak of Calgary, AB, Sandy (Bob) Crawford of Saskatoon, SK, Greg (Elaine) Dutchak of Saskatoon, SK, and Les Dutchak of Saskatoon, SK; grandchildren: Jodi Dutchak, Brittany Crawford, Abby Dutchak, and Dawson Dutchak; sisters: Vicky Wlasichuk of Edmonton, AB and Sally (Alec) Rusnak of Bonnyville, AB; brother, Lawrence (Shirley) Boychuk of Emerald Park, SK; and her sisters-in-law, Yvonne Boychuk of Winnipeg, MB and Evelyn Boychuk of Yorkton, SK; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
In her honour, the Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 6, 2023, from Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Canora, SK, with Very Rev. Fr. Joakim Rac as Celebrant. Rite of Committal to follow at the Canora Cemetery, Canora, SK.
Those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to the Saskatoon City Hospital or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Emily Dutchak.
