Obituary of Elsie Zelma Loeb
On May 24, 2023, Elsie passed away peacefully at Bethania Personal Care Home. Mom was born on May 14, 1930 in Whitemouth, MB. She was the fourth child of William and Alvina Endler.
She is greatly missed by her children Clyde (Chris), Cheryl (Merv), Marilyn (Rob), Greg, daughter-in-law Helen, grandchildren Melanie (Travis), Cameron (MarryAnn), Justin, Jordan (Matt), great-grandchildren Finnian and Benjamin. Elsie is survived by her sisters Ruth, Edith, brother Harvey (Doreen), sister-in-law Helen and other close relatives. She was predeceased by her husband Richard, son Randy, brothers Henry, Julius and Walter, sister Mary, and two infant brothers.
Mom grew up on the family farm in Lonely Dale. From an early age faith and music were an important part of her life. Her family were active members of the Oldenberg congregation and she was confirmed by Pastor Judt at age 14. Mom and Dad met at a house party at Uncle John’s Corner in 1948 and were married in 1950. He married «the nicest girl I know». Dad was attracted to her harmonious alto voice and her amazing baseball skills. He was lucky to catch her!
Mom and Dad ran the Loeb homestead dairy farm in Lydiatt with their 5 children. It was important to them that their kids be raised with farm life values. Family, friends and neighbours were always welcome. Mom was our homemaker. She enjoyed creating a beautiful home and yard. As a newlywed with young children, she took on the role of organist at St John Lutheran Church, which continued for over 30 years.
Life forever changed when Richard passed in 1988. With strength and resilience, Mom made many difficult life decisions and created a new home for herself. She sold the farm, built a house in Beausejour and became actively involved in the community.
Volunteering was Mom’s way of life and continued to the end. She had a generous heart, even at a young age. She devoted countless hours to charities, community projects and political causes. She couldn’t sit still and always said «I wouldn’t have it any other way».
Mom had a great sense of humour, the original practical joker (pickles and needles often played a role) and could kibitz with anyone of any age. She very much loved sharing time with family and friends, weiner roasts, camping, bike riding, going for walks and travelling.
In 2017, Mom moved to Winnipeg to be closer to her children. She continued to be lovingly involved in our families and never stopped giving us free advice.
Mom’s family is grateful to have been able to celebrate her 93rd birthday with her.
Your Life was a Blessing
Your Memory a Treasure
You’re Loved beyond Words
And Missed beyond Measure
