It is with heavy hearts the family announce the passing of Ellen Williams of Melfort, SK on Tuesday Nov. 5, 2024. Mom entered her eternal heavenly home at the age of 87. She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her children David, Irene, Bruce, Joyce (Jim), Wesley (Marian), Ronald (Sheila), Hazel and Mark; her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Alvin (Bud) on Oct. 27, 2021 and Mom was the last remaining member of her family.
Mom was born on Feb. 28, 1937 to John and Beatrice Mann on the family farm in the Kew Gardens District. On Nov. 14, 1952 she married Alvin (Bud) and they started married life on the Red Hall Quarter. In 1956, a move was made to Saskatoon for Dad’s work. In 1962, they returned home to farm and in 1965 bought the home quarter and raised their eight children. Mom and Dad loved to dance and attended many local social events where many memories were made and reminisced about in later years.
Mom was an extremely hardworking farm wife who took pride in working alongside her husband. She spent many hours milking cows, feeding pigs, chickens and turkeys. Mom attended to a large garden and spent long hours canning, freezing and doing household chores after the outdoor chores were done, all while raising their eight children, whom most times worked hard to annoy her as much as possible but she still loved us unconditionally. Mom was a strong force of a woman. Put simply she was one of a kind. She was always there for us.
In 2002, Mom and Dad retired from farming and settled in Melfort. After moving to Melfort, Mom obtained her certificate in preparing Income Tax Returns in her own home. She loved and was extremely efficient at it. She strived to get the biggest return possible for all. Yes, she looked forward to that time of the year. In the early years, we could all count on her to babysit…coming into our home, tending to the grandchildren, making a big pot of homemade soup and having freshly baked buns ready for all to enjoy. The grandchildren all liked it when Grandma came to babysit. Granddaughter Amy fondly remembers spending time at the farm working in the garden and shelling peas while Grandma told her stories of her mother (Joyce) and her siblings. I’m sure they were all good stories and pretty sure Amy ate most of the peas she shelled. Of course, we will all remember her pancakes….so fluffy and delicious. After Jim’s retirement, Mom welcomed his daily visits sharing a cup of coffee with her. She could count on him if she needed something done. She was so appreciative of everyone’s help.
An entire life story can never be documented into an Obituary, especially Mom’s, but her children all agree that everything they know about kindness, humour, determination, and generosity of spirit comes from this amazing woman. She was special to many people. She was many things, but above all else, to us she was Mom and Grandma. She was such a necessary and valued part of our world and it is not the same place without her in it. Despite many health concerns, she remained strong never allowing her health concerns and life events to overshadow her spirit.
Mom will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family.
Mom was such a Beautiful Soul. Rest easy Mom. We love you forever and always.
